Voters are punishing ANC' - Mandela’s party set for its worst election result since 1994 under Ramaphosa​

The African National Congress (ANC) will deliver their worst performance in an election since 1994 under President Cyril Ramaphosa.

As South Africa braces for the results of the national elections, IOL commissioned African Innovation Research SA (AIRSA) to run mathematical modelling using past data, voting trends and results to project the possible outcome of the elections.

AIRSA's projection suggests significant shifts in the country's political landscape.

According to the projection, the ANC is expected to receive 43.2% of the vote, marking a historic low for the party that has dominated South African politics since the end of apartheid.

MK Party projected to scoop KZN but who will be the province’s new premier?​

Despite Jacob Zuma’s uMkhonto weSizwe scooping up most of the votes in KwaZulu-Natal, the party says it has yet to decide who will sit as the province’s premier.

Speaking to IOL at the Provincial Results Centre in KZN, the MK Party’s Ndaba Gcwabaza, said they have yet elect who will be premier.

He said the party will cross that bridge when it comes to it.

‘Resign for voting MK’, says eThekwini councillor​

An ANC ward councillor in eThekwini called on Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) workers in his ward to resign after they apparently voted for the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party.

In a Whatsapp seen by IOL, the message from councillor Petros Nxumalo in the Hammarsdale area reads: 'Dear people of ward 4, I am deeply dissatisfied & disappointed by how u have voted. Immediately tender your resignations from EPWP of ward 4. Tx to those who voted correctly @ national. I have no peace over your act.'
