Parliament is in Cape Town. No way they can prevent this sitting. They don't have the numbers here.

It won't necessarily be in Cape Town. It could still be chaos in KZN and Gauteng like the last time - that would still be enough of a distraction to try and postpone the sitting as it would require government intervention...

That is the federal executive, which makes decisions on behalf of the federal council.

Federal council is the top body which represents the party and will make critical decisions like this negotiation.
Passes the rest of the decisions to the federal executive, which acts on behalf of federal council when it isn't in session.

Federal council is a lot of people:

  • 6.2.3.1 All members of the Federal Executive who are not otherwise members of the Federal Council;
  • 6.2.3.2 the Chairperson of the Federal Legal Commission;
  • 6.2.3.3 the Leader or his or her nominee, of all duly constituted and recognised ancillary organisations;
  • 6.2.3.4 the Provincial Chairpersons;
  • 6.2.3.5 the Provincial Chairpersons of Finance;
  • 6.2.3.6 the Regional Chairpersons of the Party in whose area of jurisdiction at least 80 000 votes were cast for the Democratic Alliance at the most recent national election;
  • 6.2.3.7 twenty four (24) Members of Parliament representing the Party, allocated to the provinces proportionately on the basis of votes cast at the most recent election of a national nature and elected by the Members of Parliament of the province concerned by a proportional voting system approved by the Federal Council, but subject to the condition that each province which elected a Member to Parliament at the most recent election shall be entitled to at least one representative under this section;
  • 6.2.3.8 twenty four (24) Members of Provincial Legislatures representing the Party, allocated to the provinces proportionately on the basis of votes cast at the most recent election of a national nature and elected by the Members of the Provincial Legislature of the province concerned by a proportional voting system approved by the Federal Council, but subject to the condition that each province which elected a Member to a Provincial Legislature at the most recent election shall be entitled to at least one representative under this section;
  • 6.2.3.9 twenty four (24) local government councillors representing the Party, allocated to the provinces proportionately on the basis of the votes cast at the most recent election of a national nature and elected by the provincial or regional organisation, where they exist, of the Association of Democratic Alliance Councillors by a proportional voting system approved by the Federal Council, but subject to the condition that each province shall obtain at least one representative under this section.
  • twenty four (24) members of the Party who are not public representatives, or their alternates, allocated to the provinces proportionately on the basis of the votes cast at the most recent election of a national nature and elected by the province concerned by a proportional voting system approved by the Federal Council, but subject to the condition that each province must obtain at least one representative under this section;
  • any additional members, up to six, co-opted by the persons referred to above, subject to a two thirds majority of the Federal Council meeting approving each co-option by secret ballot;
  • two staff members from each province designated by the Provincial Chairperson, without voting rights.

I don't envy these people at all. Their decisions have to juggle between the DA's best interests and the country's.

Ok here is my GNU.

I've given the top 3 parties each a top position and I reduce the number of ministries.

  • The DA must fix Health (NHI), Justice(NPA - Glenis B.) , Police (Crime - Ian Cameron), Public Enterprises, Public Works and Higher Education (NFSAS).
  • Aunt Pat (Good) gets Tourism again.
  • IFP gets Traditional Affairs to keep the king happy.
  • FF+ Basic Education because we know how important mother tongue education is. Alternatively they can get Agriculture to so that they can convince the farmers to give away some land.
  • Herman (ASA) gets Trade and Industry because we need more entrepreneurs and less tenderpreneurs.
  • To make Gaynor (PA) happy and give him Home Affairs so that he can remove all the illegal's.
  • The ANC keeps Labor not to upset the unions and Finance so that they are still in control.

I donno man, this is starting to look like an opportunity for non-ANC parties to fail and then the ANC at the next election can say, look they can't manage anything.
