There's nothing much wrong with criticism in politics but there are some instances where you expect politicians to be bigger and better people, Gayton has been nothing but a good role model since his release, he has done nothing to deserve such a treatment.

And he has a good point, the DA are being hypocrites because they don't seem to mind him and his party when they are the beneficiaries of his support. Maybe if he did do that then the DA would get a moment to reflect on how it treats smaller parties.

Ok, good point. While I get their stance of "smaller parties divide the opposition and division = ANC wins", which can be true a lot of times, I don't think it could hurt the DA to turn it down a smidgen...

The policy, which has been in the making since 2018, was first endorsed by the Economic Development Section 79 Oversight Committee to be tabled at the ordinary sitting of Council. The policy was subsequently adopted by council and officially becomes law, paving the way for an organised informal trade sector within the City.


The new policy provides an opportunity for informal traders to be represented in decision-making processes across various City structures through the Informal Trading Stakeholder Committee. In addition, it provides for an effective and streamlined application process that will make use of the latest technology, which is in line with the Multi-Party Government’s Mayoral priority of a Smart City.

I always wonder as to why mybb DA people don't move to Soweto? We have already heard that most of them have friends in soweto. Might as well move there and benefit from whatever they think is the benefit. As soon as the DA gets to run it....so it will be under proper "management". You mean...

Ramaphosa reiterated that illegal immigration remained a concern.

In the same breath, he said there was no justification for any acts of violence perpetrated against foreign nationals.

"There can be no doubt that we have urgently, as South Africans, to resolve the issues of illegal immigration and the impact it has on our economy and society. We have violence because the government is simply incapable of acting without some persuasion, if the issue of illegal immigration is only dawning on him and government now, one can only imagine how long it would take for them to act if they was no push.

The fact that they were sleeping on the job all along with borders wide open is proof that they are in no position to act.

Yup, they probably won't actively try to you know... give us strong borders and do something about the illegals... Probably just before 2024, in their election campaign promises, but I doubt anyone would buy them.

They are already going around trying to pull wool over people's eyes by arresting a few illegals to make it appear like they are doing something. I think Motsoaledi is very genuine looking at all the trouble his department is having to go through but there is just no will to act from the rest of government.

That's what they always do with anything they get flak for:

Loadshedding - "No we will get IPP soon, Eskom will improve soon", **** all else happens
Illegals - /arrests a handful of illegals, **** all else happens
July Riots aftermath - Have an HRC thing, **** all else happens
Corruption - "no, will never happen again, we fight it", **** all else happens
Electoral reform - /silence

And so it goes. Just half measures... No, 1/10 measures everywhere you look.

The problem is he's limited in action cause we see that Rama/ANC can quickly override and "detain" their ministers if they step out of line. E.g. what happened with Pandor because of her initial statement about Russia/Ukraine.

So if he tries too much they'll probably remove him.

Mashaba has a pattern of defending dodgy decisions. First defending the EFF in dodgy tenders and now this.

Brink was brought into the metro in August 2018 as chief operating officer under a coalition headed by then DA mayor Herman Mashaba.

Though not formal coalition partners, the DA relied on the EFF’s support to govern in the cities of Johannesburg and Tshwane, and Brink’s appointment was viewed by some sources within the Johannesburg administration as a quid pro quo.

Mashaba previously strongly denied this implication and defended the city’s decision to employ Brink, arguing that claims he is linked to Malema were speculative and “subjective”.

A less than credible cadre. After his stint as Transport Minister he entered the business sector as a non executive director with First Rand (highest paid), whenever I attending meetings at their head offices I regularly saw him sitting in the executive lounge which leads me to believe he was only employed for his political connections. Resigned in 2003 after allegations of corruption related to his time as Transport Minister. Later he became Zuma's spokesman, no surprise there.
