The Samsung i900 OMNIA Tips/Tricks/Apps thread

Thanks. Do you have another non rapidshare link for that file. Work is going to give me grief for downloading a 50mb+ file and the only way I can download it is via my phone since my data bundle is the only connection I have - I can't use my phone as a modem without the software and rapidshare files don't seem to download on my phone (either that or that file is only 16kb in size)

PS : The phone will reboot a couple of times during this process, this is normal. After the flashing process is complete, the phone will boot up to the welcome screen, where you will then need to set it up again e.g. date/screen alignment etc,BUT do not do anything yet, just leave it for a minute or two, because it will install the optimized GPS/CPU/Optical track pad drivers and will reboot automatically when done.Once it has rebooted and displays the welcome screen again, then you may configure it.

This is brilliant. Thanks zanderza! I actually feel confident about flashing my phone. I'll do it this evening.

Guys do you want me to keep this post updated ?

Downloading the files now... Charging the phone
Yes, please keep the post updated. This is like the ultimate tip/trick for the Omnia :)

Cool, no worries. I've discovered that if you change the your Opera settings so that the browser shows up as a desktop PC instead of a Mobile device you can download RapidShare files.

I'm now connected and sorted. Thanks for the help.

Well, Step 1 went off without a hitch.
Going for step 2 in a few mins...

oh and about the maps... my garmin version was 5.00.10w standard and to upgrade the maps all I did was download the maps and replace the file on my storage card. That's how I managed it.

Step 2 done. The phone is just restarting.
So it takes roughly 15 mins to do this flashing.

zanderza... Thanks for the tutorial. If I can do it... anyone can.

Now to get my contacts etc back on...

Upgrade of Garmin Mobile

Hi guys, I saw on the Samsung Blog that they have the Garmin Mobile update for the Omnia as well as for the Maps to 2009. I've installed it, but not noticed much difference. Anyone else downloaded it? I also did the firmware update and on that I could notice a vast improvement. The alarms improved, as well as the battery life. Anyone else did the upgrade? What else did they change?

All went without a hitch? How do you like the new ROM?

It was much much easier than I thought it would be...
Quick too. zanderza's instructions were very detailed. Anyone wanting to update their firmware will have a guide now.

As for the firmware itself... it's amazingly quick and responsive. It actually just feels like the hardware is being much better utilised than before!

I'm loading all my apps back on... let's see how it works after everything has been loaded.

What are you folks using to manage and play your MP3s?

Both the Touch player and Windows Media Players are absolutely useless. You would think that Samsung would include a semi- decent player that would allow for decent touch navigation of folders and files.Up and down buttons for Folder navigation left and right for files.

Wi-Fi refuses to switch on. I'm not sure if it's the fault of an app I loaded or the firmware. :(

Try doing a "Hard Reset" and see if that perhaps fixes the issue.

I manged to get it working by going into the /Windows folder and running WlanLoader.exe - Load. Not sure if it's something I have to do after every soft reset or a perm fix.
Testing that in a while (after I'm done with the wireless), but I'll go hard reset if it's a temp fix.

I've also got the official DXIA5 which is the latest,if you don't succeed in resolving the problem, you me want to try the official DXIA5,I've got a cooked one as well...

Stupid question... but have you set it to automatically detect connection?

My problem is that my wifi doesn't even start. A hard reset should fix this. What is nice though is that I can try the programs I was always worried about trying before, like SPB Mobile Shell and Winterface. :)
