The Samsung i900 OMNIA Tips/Tricks/Apps thread

Thanks Zander, does this one support landscape mode?

No probs man, unfortunately it doesn't,but apparently the guys over @ XDA are working on the landscape issue...hopefully we'll be getting landscape support soon...

Thanks, maybe ill give it a go. Have you tried it yet?

Nope, i'm happy with my custom DXIA2 for now,i'll probably switch to DXIA5 as soon as Taril has made it custom.

Mits Wizard 3.0 Download

Ahh.
Downloaded MIT's Wizard 3.0
That has worked for my backups :)

Not for the flashing act..

I am trying to install teh Samsung Omnia CD onto my XP SP2 laptop and the autostartup of the CD fails totally. I then dug into teh CD and ran the installers manually for Retreiver and the MITs Wizard. When I start up the Mits it wants to download updates but....then FAILS. I read somewhere that you can just cancel the update process....but it just goes into a loop coming back to the download and in the end fails.

LiveUpdate_V3.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close.
AppName: liveupdate_v3.exe AppVer: 3.0.0.4 ModName: ntdll.dll
ModVer: 5.1.2600.2180 Offset: 000012f1

If you run the MITsWizard_V3.exe out of the directory installed it starts up.

Is there an updated FIX for these problems?
1. CD not loading out of autorun.
2. MITs update service not working and the main exe not working then.

Where can I get a proper working download of the Mits software?

Please help...eager to get my phone connected ;-)

Anyone tried the WM6.5 yet on Omnia?

PS, restored backup img file and still not working, asked me for more detailed map everytime I want to enter an address/intersection as destination. And Garmin people not helping!!

PPS: Sorted. Problem with activation. Previously I had problem with activation and gave support my coupon code, later they gave me an software key file. But they only gave me one file which is the software key but not the Map unlock keyfile. I restored my Garmin from CD today and activate again with coupon, this time it's working and I can use navigation with previous version now. Upgrading to the latest.:D

Do you perhaps have a link to a WM6.5 ROM for me?
Would like to check it out...:D

Hey,
I may have missed this somewhere... but does the phones still work with the Singapore ROM instead of the South Africa one?
Also, the custom ROMs... how do I actually go about loading one on? I've got the JCHH1 firmware on my phone at the moment. I've gone and downloaded the files from modaco and read the posts there, but I couldn't find a guide and I don't want my phone to become a paperweight.
I'd love to play around more with this stuff but I have no idea where to start.

Flashing omnia with a Custom ROM

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
***UPDATE***
ALL INFORMATION ON YOUR OMNIA WILL BE ERASED DURING THIS PROCESS !

Pre-flashing preparation :

1. Download the official Samsung modem driver :
http://rapidshare.com/files/204950637/SamsungModem_xp.zip

2. Download the official Samsung ROM :
http://rapidshare.com/files/205387336/i900DXHK3.zip

3. Download Tarils cooked ROM
DXIA2
(http://rapidshare.com/files/204950551/i900-OMNIA-DXIA2___ZanderZa_22.02.2009.exe.7z)

4. Make sure your device is fully charged.

5. Terminate as many apps running on your pc as possible e.g. anti virus/firewall during this process.

6. Do not touch the phone during the updating process,or do anything on your pc.

7. You should now have 3 files
1. SamsungModem_xp.zip
2. i900DXHK3.zip (Official ROM)
3. i900-OMNIA-DXIA2___ZanderZa_22.02.2009.exe.7z (Tarils cooked ROM)

STEP 1
Flashing to the official ROM "i900DXHK3.zip"
***Do not connect your phone yet***

1. Backup your person data e.g Contacts/Calendar etc.
2. Install the Samsung modem driver "SamsungModem_xp.zip".
3. MAKE SURE THAT IT HAS IN FACT BEEN INSTALLED (Check in "Program Files")
4. Switch off your phone.
5. Extract the official Samsung ROM "i900DXHK3.zip" file anywhere and run it.
6. While you phone is switched OFF,connect it to your pc.
7. Now switch on your phone only if ALL of the following conditions are TRUE
a. The update application is already running. (Waiting for device...)
b. You have confirmed that the Samsung modem driver is installed.
c. Your phone is connected to the pc.
8. Switch on the phone.
9. As soon as the update application detects the device the "START" button will become usable, click on it.
10. Do not unplug the cable until the progress bar of the update application becomes BLUE and it says either "Complete" or "Finished" at the bottom.

STEP 2
Flashing to the cooked ROM " i900-OMNIA-DXIA2___ZanderZa_22.02.2009.exe.7z"
***Do not connect your phone yet*** :[/U][/B]

If you are sure the Samsung modem driver is installed skip steps 2 & 3

5. Extract the cooked ROM file anywhere and run it. "i900-OMNIA-DXIA2___ZanderZa_22.02.2009.exe.7z"

PS : The phone will reboot a couple of times during this process, this is normal. After the flashing process is complete, the phone will boot up to the welcome screen, where you will then need to set it up again e.g. date/screen alignment etc,BUT do not do anything yet, just leave it for a minute or two, because it will install the optimized GPS/CPU/Optical track pad drivers and will reboot automatically when done.Once it has rebooted and displays the welcome screen again, then you may configure it.
