The Sandy Hook Elementary School Shootings

I wonder if people on this forum that are sickened and disgusted by the shooting of the kids in Connecticut were as disgusted and sickened by the killing of over 100 people, including 49 children, in Syria in what is now known as the Al-Houla massacre? I think they weren't as saddened and disgusted, actually, I don't think some even knew that such as event took place.

Al Houla massacre video

People seem to be disgusted more when a few people die in the US but not when people die in a third world country.

yeah, for some reason things are unacceptable when they are doing individually, but acceptable when they are done collectively. If we are going to bar guns, then start with soldiers first - they do far more killing than these individuals.

There was one hellavu a shouting contest on Piers Morgan just now!

Piers almost lost it when some guy suggested that this(and the cinema shooting) could have been prevented or deaths limited if everybody had guns and could take down the gunman!

Guns don't kill people. People kill people. Gun, knife, panga, spear, rock, whatever will be used ... even bombs and airplanes full of fuel.

Sort the roots out and stop focussing on guns. Why did this kid do this? Thát is what we should focus on now but all one hears all over the news is "better gun control". That is a very convenient way of taking the focus off what is really wrong with America.

Sure guns don't kill people but they do make it easier and convenient. The world is full of nutjobs

Yes, they do make it easier but we MUST focus on what drove a person to do this to his own family and others. We must not now focus on guns just like we couldn't focus on airplanes after 9-11.

I'm all I'm favour of better gun controls but that is not where the problem lies. What is done to address the real problems?

A person that desires to kill will always find a way. If not guns then fertilizers or airplanes. What drove this guy to do this? Anyone know?

I know I will upset many here by saying this but violent computer/console games can be just as easily be blamed and banned for these atrocities. Where do kids learn to kill? Where is it simulated best? Games, that become more and more realistic with every new edition ... even using Military experts to make it more real. Who's talking about that? All we hear is guns guns guns ...

Sure, but can't we in the meantime at least try and make it more difficult for people like this to easily acquire assault rifles?

Yes. Sure. No problem with that. But what I'm trying to say here is that true causes must be focused on more and that so much focus on guns is used to hide what America has become. The real issues here are much more important than gun control but will again be hidden and conveniently forgotten. Bullying at school is one example. One nation bullying another is another example.

Kids killed in American drone attacks is a different issue completely. Nobody said it was okay.

I agree that society is sick. Issues are very complex. People just lose it and different races and religions will never see eye to eye. Can you please explain to us how to fix this quickly? You talk about addressing the real problems, but you do not explain to us what the real problems are...

A good place to start is to not sell automatic weapons to anyone who wants one, as well as for the media to not make these shooters famous and rather just mourn the victims.

Interesting video:

They did focus on access on airplanes after 9-11. Easy access to airplanes (cockpits) is no longer possible thanks to the events of 9-11.

Okay. This is a very relevant issue, but it's not like people are ignoring it. It is being addressed by many people.

The trouble is that we give too many rights to the sh** stirrers. Somehow discipline takes a back seat. And with that respect. Society has been swung too far one way by trying to manage everyone that it has forgotten that society is actually a lump on individuals rather than a uniform whole. Maybe if people back up a little and gave the bullying tard a good thump we'd have less tension. We would possibly have few kids taking guns and katanas to school..

Unfortunately we also have sickos amongst us. Yet we seem to rather want to focus on access to weapons rather than deal with psychos.

Let the americans own guns that are from the period when the bill of rights was signed.... a ball musket. The whole Right was signed in to protect the country from an English invasion. (Invasion from the English king of the time)

Obviously media companies are motivated by the bottom line, the more people they can turn into viewers and get them glued to their money generating channels the more money they will get through advertisement. It's funny that towards the end of the video the media companies are doing exactly the opposite of what the Forensic Psychiatrist advised them to do.

WASHINGTON — A law enforcement official says some guns owned by the mother of the gunman in the Connecticut elementary school rampage match the models of the guns used in the shooting.
The official cautions that investigators haven't conclusively linked the guns used in the rampage to the ones the woman owned.

The official says state police records show the woman had legally purchased five firearms and all were registered in Connecticut. Authorities are still trying to account for all the guns.

Is there anyone that can justify why a mother would need FIVE firearms ?!
