What line speed did you get?

17ms ping is not great for fibre and those speeds aren't great for fibre.
Are you testing over Wifi or something?

I consistently get the exact same result: (Well speed varies slightly but always 1ms ping)

That latency isn't very good, I would suspect over wireless.

Octotel line speeds are 10/5, we are in discussions with them in offering symmetrical services.

Yes it's wireless because none of the LAN ports work on the router was supplied.

Waiting for them to supply me with a new router...

Hi

We are able to assist with fibre in a block as well as providing an internet service ontop of that via microwave wireless in sea point. We would want to convert the backhaul to fibre as soon as we can get DFA or City Fibre in the area which is still a while off for blocks higher up than main road.

We do offer discounts for multitenant blocks.
Have a look at www.wibre.co.za

Once we can get the fibre in we would be happy to offer open access we already have cross connects to most of the other ISPs.

Has anyone gone with Web Africa as a ISP for fibre in Sea Point?

The block I'm staying in - Kingsgate - went with Telkom / Openserve (vs. Octotel - silly decision) and I've had to go with them. Applied over a month ago and I've heard nothing since - besides from a call from Web Africa apologising for the poor communication up until that point. With no further info on the progress.

My concern is that Web Africa is not able to provide any more info besides "we're sure that we've sent this through to Telkom" and continue waiting "4-10 weeks". The problem is that I don't want to be in a position (in 10 weeks time) where Web Africa phones me to let me know that there was a problem with the application. Surely, Telkom / Openserve would supply an ISP with a confirmation number.

Anyone in the Sea Point area that has successfully got fibre through Telkom? What ISP do you recommend?

PS - With the Telkom LTE promotion ending tomorrow - seriously considering going with that option instead. Any comments?

Who else is making use of Octotel in Sea Point/Green Point etc? I'd like to know their experience with the service.
I see guys are busy in a number of locations installing fibre, but I'm not sure if it is OpenServ or Octotel.
The packages for most ISP's seem cheaper on Octotel and I'd prefer to go with them if it's an option.

Also interested to hear anyone's experience on Octotel? I've ordered the gigabit package from Vox but I suspect early next year will be available for me.
