Cape Town - Following a recent armed robbery, patrons at the Waterstone Village Shopping Centre in Somerset West may no longer enter the mall wearing sunglasses or hats, says the mall’s manager Daphne Kriel.

The new security measures were introduced following a robbery at the centre’s Pick n Pay on October 19 when gunmen, one posing as a woman, shot dead a security guard.

This country is trying to to prevent crime by targeting the law abiding citizens...
What they should be doing is implementing more visible policing... but well trained policemen /women who are in a good mental and physical condition.

The only time we see police these days is when they are out driving around their family members in police vehicles or going on some personal errand.
Have you ever noticed that police who drive past an incident almost never stop....? it is because the incident is more than likely outside of their jurisdiction so we have to wait for a van that is assigned to that particular area...
Problem is, the van assigned to that area, is more than likely also driving around on errands, in another area.
And that my friends, is how our resources are wasted and why we get such poor service.

They should look inward as a first step to resolving this infestation of crime.
get the corrupt cops first who assist their buddies...

If they did their jobs properly, we would not have to be inconvenienced in any way.

Just want to give you a warning notice especially the girls. Yesterday I was at Cavendish Square at 3pm and as I was loading things into my boot in the secure parking lot. A lady came up to me and told me not to make a scene as she had a gun in her bag. She said two guys in security clothes are in a car watching us and I must get in my car with her. Luckily I didn't listen to her and took the chance and just ran inside the mall and informed security. They caught her
She didn't have a gun it was a tactic to get me into the car with her.

Waterstone Village Bans Hats, Sunglasses and Hoodies

In the wake of the recent armed robbery at Waterstone Village, patrons at the Somerset West shopping centre may no longer enter the mall wearing sunglasses, hoods of sweaters (hoodies) over their head, nor hats, says the mall’s manager Daphne Kriel.

The new security measures have been introduced after a security guard was shot and killled by armed gunmen at the centre’s Pick n Pay last month. In addition to the banning of these items, the mall’s security and CCTV have also been fortified.

Police visibility and presence has been increased, with patrols being conducted by SAPS at the mall.

Yesterday (November 11th), Western Cape Minister of Community Safety, Dan Plato, made a safety oversight visit to Waterstone Village. It was one of his first stops in an ongoing campaign, leading towards the festive season, highlighting the combined efforts by all the safety role-players involved to ensure the safety of shoppers and visitors in the Western Cape.

Minister Plato’s visits seek to not only help ensure the safety of people in the province but to also build meaningful partnerships with the private sector, the South African Police Service (SAPS) and the Department of Community Safety in the Western Cape towards safer environments.

So what will happen if someone tries to enter with a burka? Will they also be refused entry?
 
Not a shopping mall but apparently 3 guys robbed Standard Bank in Kuilsriver this morning when they opened.
