Security guard shot in Daveyton Mall robbery

JOHANNESBURG - A 32-year-old security guard has been shot in the leg during a robbery at Daveyton Mall in Ekurhuleni.

It’s understood the guard was leaving a store with cash on Friday morning when a criminal opened fire and made off with the money.

Another guard was hit over the head with a weapon during the confrontation.

ER24 spokesperson Annine Siddall said: “A guard has sustained a gunshot wound to his leg and was transported to hospital for further medical care.”

At the same time, there's been an armed robbery at the Kameraz store at the Rosebank Mall.

Sorry for the off topic post but I just can't get my head around this: In South Africa, armed robberies of shopping centers in broad daylight are so common that you chaps have decided to dedicate a own thread to the issue ??? This must be some bizarre record on its own.

Jewellery store robbed in Mall of the North, Polokwane

POLOKWANE – According to Sumari de Ridder, General Manager of Mall of the North, two men entered the mall and robbed a jewellery store.

“Security were alerted to the situation, reacted swiftly and gave chase, however the suspects fled to a waiting vehicle and sped away.”

No one was hurt during this incident, confirmed De Ridder.

1 injured as armed gang holds up Cape Town cellphone store

Cape Town – The Parow Shopping Centre was briefly closed on Tuesday afternoon after shots were fired during an armed robbery of a cellular phone shop, Western Cape police said.

At roughly 15:30, two unidentified men entered the shop and held up the staff, threatening employees, spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk told News24.

Van Wyk said the robbers had taken an undisclosed number of cellphones.

The robbers opened fire while fleeing the scene. One person was injured in the arm, but it was not clear whether they were a robber or an innocent bystander.

No additional injuries have been reported.

Police had been deployed to the scene for further investigation.

Cops arrest four in botched #RiversideMall robbery

Cape Town - Social media was abuzz on Wednesday afternoon after a brazen robbery attempt in Rondebosch.

Four suspects were arrested following a shootout with the police.

"The swift reaction of Rondebosch police led to the apprehension of four suspects during an attempt to rob a cellular telephone store in a shopping mall in Rondebosch Main Road (Wednesday) afternoon," police spokesperson Andre Traut said.

"Police reacted to a panic alarm activated by the staff of the store and rapidly approached the scene with caution. The robbers shot at police but were quickly outnumbered and four aged in their thirties were arrested.

Armed robber dies in shootout at Alberton City

One member of a gang of seven that robbed the Telkom branch in Alberton City on June 24 was shot dead during a shootout with Special Operations Group (SOG) security staff. A second suspect was injured.

The robbery took place at about 2.45pm on Monday, the Alberton Record reports.

The suspects entered the shop and told the Telkom employees that unless they wanted to put their lives in danger, they should cooperate with them. However, one of the employees pressed the panic button and SOG responded.

The suspects were still on the premises when they realised the security company had responded, blocking their escape route.

One of them pulled out a gun and a shootout ensued between the suspect and SOG officers. The shooter was killed and an accomplice was shot twice.

Two wounded in mall robbery shooting

Two bystanders were wounded when three robbers “randomly” opened fire after robbing and making off with an undisclosed amount of money from a retail store in Khaye*litsha Mall yesterday.

The three stormed into the shop and held staff at gunpoint, demanding money. One suspect, a 25-year-old who was wounded, was arrested. Police are still searching for his two accomplices.

Durban mall robbery 'kingpin' arrested

DURBAN - The 'kingpin' behind a spate of mall robberies across the city was arrested on Monday night. The man along with an accomplice also connected to the smash-and-grab raids on jewellery and other high end good stores at malls was arrested by detectives from the Provincial Mall Robbery Task Team at their hideout in uMlazi. Police spokesman, Brigadier Jay Naicker said the arrests followed an intelligence driven operation by various police units.

"Detectives from the Provincial Mall Robbery Task Team had been tracking the movements of the suspect who remained very elusive and was possibly aware that police were looking for him. Last night (Monday) police launched an operation after identifying two residences at AA section and BB section in Umlazi, used as hideouts by these criminals," Naicker said.

Suspects rob MTN store in La Lucia Mall

THREE suspects robbed a cell phone store in La Lucia Mall on Wednesday evening. It’s believed the suspects entered the MTN store just after 6pm before holding up the staff. According to a voice note on Sun Cell Watch, one of the suspects was wearing a red jersey. No one was injured and at this stage it is unclear how much was taken during the robbery.

A photo circulating on WhatsApp shows various boxes strewn across the floor of the mall.

Shot fired as Durban mall robbers 'fight among themselves'

Durban - At least one shot was fired when a gang of armed robbers apparently fought among themselves as they fled the scene of a robbery in La Lucia Mall on Wednesday night. Blue Security media and community liaison officer Andreas Mathios said a gang of five suspects had entered the mall and robbed a cellphone shop.

“Two suspects went into the shop and forced three staff members, who were working behind the counter attending to customers, to the back of the store where they pilfered an open safe of cellphones. The gang also held up a staff member at gunpoint and robbed her of jewellery,” Mathios said.

About eight suspects attempt to rob jewellers in Clearwater Mall

A shootout incident allegedly ensued earlier at a prominent jewellery store in Clearwater Mall when a group of suspects attempted to commit a robbery.

It has been reported that about eight suspects attempted to ransack the Rob Browns Jewellery shop. However, a panic button was activated which set of the smoke dectectors on the floor.

It was also reported that the suspects fled on foot and no injuries were reported.

Security guard injured in attempted robbery in West Rand

Krugersdorp - A security guard, believed to be 33 years old, was injured during an attempted robbery at a shopping mall in Krugersdorp on the West Rand on Sunday afternoon, paramedics said.

When ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene shortly before 2pm, the security guard was standing next to a shop in the mall, ER24 spokesperson Ineke van Huyssteen said.

"He was assessed by our paramedics. It is believed that he was hit over the head with an unknown object by a suspect. He was transported to a nearby hospital for further medical care.

Armed robbers hit Mall of the South yet again

Armed robbers struck again at the Mall of the South this weekend, adding to the string of attacks that have been reported at one of the largest malls in Africa.

Although no one was injured, an undisclosed amount of goods was stolen from a jewellery store at the premises in Aspen Hills on Sunday.

Mall of the South manager Hester Smith told The Star that an armed group entered NWJ Fine Jewellery at 10.22am.

They made off with "an undisclosed amount of goods", and fired a shot as they left.

Smith said mall security immediately responded when the store alerted them of the incident. But the group was already on their way out of the mall with the stolen goods. Luckily no one was injured and the mall resumed trading shortly afterwards.

A little over a minute. That's how long it took a gang of armed thieves to rob a jewellery store in Hillcrest, Durban.

CCTV footage shows two men sauntering into the store, appearing to discuss the goods. Seconds later a third man grabs the security guard standing outside and hauls him into the store at gunpoint.

[WATCH] This is what happened during the attempted robbery at Browns Jewellers in Cra

On Sunday, 30 July at about 1.30pm, Browns Jewellers in Cradlestone Mall was hit by seven suspects who allegedly fired numerous shots.

According to Broll Management, seven suspects entered the mall and attempted to enter the store. A man and and woman entered the store while the others waited outside. They tried to break the shop’s front windows by shooting at the glass, but failed. Due to the efficient reaction of the staff and security, the smoke alarm was immediately activated.

ER24 spokesperson, Ineke van Huyssteen, said one guard, believed to be 33 years old, sustained moderate injuries in the incident.

Store robbery trauma: Staff told don't go or you'll be fired

Traumatised Shoprite employees at the Charlesville Shopping Centre said the supermarket’s management threatened them with dismissal when they asked to be sent home following an armed robbery in the store yesterday.

Five unidentified men stormed the supermarket and held staff at gunpoint before they made off with an undisclosed amount of cash, which employees said was for social grant payments.

The robbery occurred shortly after the store opened. Within minutes the robbers were gone.
