This is getting way out of hand now. Mall owners need to deploy at least 2 security guards at each door. More security guards need to roam the floor as well.
I think in PostmanPots video the two guys on the left who ran pretty damn fast were security![]()

Scanners wouldn't have helped in this instance...A car guard and a builder among others, looks like a bag of random criminals....
Anyway, jewelry stores need to implement scanners at the doors like the banks use.
Ebrahim Harris, co-owner of Harris and D’arcy Jewellers, an upmarket store which on Sunday was raided by nine men armed with rifles and sledgehammers, said he could barely believe what he was watching when he scanned the CCTV footage captured by cameras throughout the mall.
“I watched them put in the little ticket and everything.”
The owners had been braced for a heist after security had spotted “suspicious characters” watching stores just before the weekend, said Harris.
“My security recognised some of them from pictures shared on Facebook.” The pictures were those of people identified in connection with another mall robbery he said, “and we advised the police”.
He was taking no chances. His brother, Bubi, who owns Harris Jewellers in Canal Walk, had been hit by robbers in October last year. Thieves, who also entered the store in daylight, escaped with diamonds, rings, bracelets, necklaces and watches worth R2 million after smashing glass displays inside the store.
Harris Jewellers at the V&A Waterfront was robbed of stock worth an estimated R15m. However, the pair of robbers in that case were later arrested.
The Canal Walk shop was one of many targeted by what Harris has called a “syndicate” at large in the city.
He said when the police arrived at the Blue Route Mall, the men spotted by his security would mysteriously disappear, only to return as soon as police were gone.
“We expected (them) to hit us between 9am and 11am on Sunday,” he told the Cape Argus. “That’s their modus operandi. So we called in the cops to wait for them.”
But the police never arrived.
Harris, who was not at the mall at the time, said he pieced together Sunday’s events using CCTV footage. He watched as the nine men descended on the shop.
“Two of them started smashing up the kiosk with hammers… One of them pulled out a gun on one of my ladies.”
A group of thieves split off towards the shop, turning their hammers on the storefront. Harris said they must not have expected him to have high impact glass as their hammers rebounded off the exterior.
Hearing the banging, shoppers started running. A witness said a security guard was also seen fleeing from the robbers.
Harris said his two staff members inside the store scurried for the back office, locking the doors and using the safe door as a bulletproof screen in case the thieves opened fire. “These guys were busy filling up their bags and then they were off.”
Their exit was calm, said Harris.
They made their way to the downstairs parking where a pair of getaway drivers were waiting. Taking time to insert their parking tickets they finally left the mall.
Parking at the mall is free for the first 90 minutes.
“The police have failed, and they failed badly,” said Harris over the phone. “They never arrived. And I understand if they were inside there would’ve been bloodshed with the shooting and all that. But I expect the police to take other precautions to catch them as they exit the mall.
“It was their one opportunity to catch these guys. Cape Town’s one opportunity to finally put these guys behind bars and they didn’t take it.”
Police spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Andrè Traut said they were still on the hunt for the gang...iol link
I don't understand why the police didn't send in plain clothed policemen to investigate, when they were initially informed about the supicious characters.
We need undercover cops baiting criminals into committing crimes against them...
If so then they need to change the law. Or find creative ways to catch the crooks. The law is too much in favour of the bad guys.Isn't that illegal?
