The Shopping Centre Armed Robbery Thread....

I was thinking about that (retractable bollards is the correct term) and the way to defeat that is just to have a second set of vehicles on the other side.

Well the same logic for escaping would also apply to spikes, so for some reason the thieves care enough to not want to leave a car behind. Thieves could also just walk into the shopping centers and then walk out to a getaway car without needing to drive in.

I guess bollards might not work for convenience reasons, they seem to move quite slow and need to be of a certain height to be useful so 99% of the time there are going to be a lot of impatient people getting ticked off by these.

I got to Menlyn Mall this afternoon just after it happened. All entrances were not working. Couldn't get a ticket or anything. It was weird. People couldn't even get out. It was chaos.

Can we ban jewelry stores from malls yet. They are a serious safety hazard.

Surprised they left their stuff. Now they have to rebuild it (or maybe buy it from the cop shop later)

Looters pounce on Phoenix jewellery stores just minutes after armed robberies

DURBAN – Police have condemned the actions of shoppers at a Durban mall who allegedly helped themselves to items just minutes after heavily armed men stormed two jewellery stores.

It is alleged that after the gang had fled, bystanders who witnessed the robbery, entered both stores and stole the remaining jewellery while threatening the highly traumatised staff.

Whilst we have launched a manhunt for the gang who initially robbed the jewellery stores we will spare no effort in ensuring that those bystanders who made themselves criminals by robbing both stores themselves, are also investigated fully for their actions,” said KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi.

And then "they" want to de-arm law abiding citizens?
How the hell do "they" expect law abiding citizens to protect themselves from criminals?

Cops foil planned robbery at Centurion Mall

THE South African Police Service (SAPS) in Gauteng has foiled a planned robbery at the Centurion Mall and arrested two people.
Gauteng SAPS spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Sello said the two were nabbed on Tuesday afternoon at the mall for conspiracy to commit armed robbery.
“A multi-disciplinary team comprising members from crime intelligence, highway patrol and Tracker operationalised information they had received about a planned robbery that was to take place at Centurion Mall. Members were posted strategically in and around the mall for observations,” said Sello.
She said officers later observed the two vehicles that were meant to be used in the attack, driving into the mall.

They knew beforehand, they had a multi-level task team, knew what the vehicles were....and STILL only managed to arrest 2 guys, and one vehicle got away?
That's not really a success. That's just really poor tactics. Those 2 will have minimal charges and will be out in days.
Nah. Be better!
