STOCK to the value of R320 000 was stolen during an armed robbery at a cellphone store at The Crescent in uMhlanga yesterday.


Captain Raymond Deokaran, spokesperson for Durban North Police Station, said the owner and four staff members were at the premises when four armed men entered the store. “Four of the staff members were in the backroom having a tea break. One pointed a firearm at the two staff members and made them sit in the back corner of the shop,” he said.

Three suspects arrested for Gugulethu Mall robbery

Cape Town - Three individuals were apprehended in connection with business robberies at Gugulethu Mall yesterday afternoon.

Police spokesperson Andre Traut said that while on patrol in the area, SAPS members spotted a suspect being pursued by the public, and reacted by arresting the man.

“They were informed that a sports shop was robbed by suspects who fled with cash and clothing. The further intervention of the members resulted in the arrest of two more suspects, who were caught in possession of the stolen goods and cash.”

“Once charged, the three suspects, aged between 18 and 21, are scheduled to make their court appearance in Athlone on a charge of business robbery,” said Traut.

Gugulethu police station’s Colonel AS Moreku said that since the mall’s construction, the station has received several business robbery reports from the location.

Security guard shot during armed robbery at Gateway in Durban​

Durban – A security guard is in a critical condition after he was shot during an armed robbery at Gateway shopping centre on Wednesday afternoon.
According to Prem Balram of Reaction Unit SA, their operations centres received several calls from shoppers reporting the robbery in progress.
“Several frantic callers informed the controller on duty that at least 15 suspects had robbed two jewellery stores.
“On arrival it was established that a security officer was shot in the parking lot.
“He is in a critical condition and is currently being stabilised on scene.”
Balram said according to shoppers, the gunmen fired multiple shots during the robbery.
“Several spent 9mm and rifle cartridges were recovered in the mall.

“The robbers are believed to have fled in a white Toyota Corolla and a white Mazda bakkie.”

Michelle Shelley, the marketing manager of Gateway Theatre of Shopping, confirmed that a robbery took place at the centre at 2.23pm.

DURBAN – Videos have emerged on social media of the brazen armed robbery at a jewellery shop at the Gateway Theatre of Shopping today.
The robbers allegedly shot a security guard before making off with an undisclosed amount of jewellery.
Gateway confirmed that the robbery took place at the centre at 2.23pm.
“Gateway security teams responded immediately to the scene. One of our security guards was injured and attended to by paramedics,” the mall said in a statement.
According to the mall, SAPS were notified, and arrived on the scene soon afterwards. “The perpetrators made off with an undisclosed amount of goods.”

Security guard shot in Durban jewellery heist dies​

The security officer who was shot on Wednesday after a robbery at a jewellery store at the Gateway mall in Umhlanga, north of Durban, has died.​


Sihle Zulu, a tactical officer with Excellerate Services, succumbed to his injuries in hospital on Friday evening. The news was confirmed in a statement by the company.

“It is with a heavy heart and great sadness that I inform you that we have lost one of our Excellerate family members,” said the company.

“Tactical officer Sihle Zulu unfortunately succumbed to his wounds earlier tonight just before 8pm in the Umhlanga Hospital. He was shot on Wednesday during an armed robbery at Gateway when he attempted to take on a heavily armed gang.

“In his passing, we have lost not only a colleague but also a gentleman and friend, known for his passion for life and his work as a tactical officer. You have run your last race our comrade and it's time to rest and sleep on. May your soul rest in peace.”

Zulu was shot in the parking lot of the mall after at least 10 armed men robbed Damjee Jewellers at gunpoint.

Gauteng police hunt for five who murdered Centurion jeweller in armed robbery​

Johannesburg – Gauteng police have launched a manhunt for five suspects who shot dead a 55-year-old Centurion businessman during a business robbery at his jewellery store on Monday.
The robbery took place at the Centurion Mall at around midday on Monday.
Police said the five suspects shot dead the owner after robbing the jewellery store of an undisclosed amount of money and jewellery on Monday.
Emer-G-Med paramedics said they responded to the shooting after being called.
“On arrival on scene a male was found in a state of cardiac arrest.
“Resuscitation efforts were attempted, however, were unsuccessful and the man was declared dead.

Acornhoek Mall: Police on ‘massive manhunt’ after looting, ATM bombing [WATCH]

The police in Mpumalanga have launched a manhunt for an unknown number of armed suspects after Acornhoek Mall near Hoedspruit was attacked in the early hours of Friday, 22 October. Approximately, 15 shops were ransacked and the suspects allegedly gained access to cash safes and ATMs by using explosives.
