JUST IN: Two nabbed in KwaMashu for jewellery heist at Phoenix Plaza

Durban: Police have arrested two people in connection with the jewellery heist at Phoenix Plaza on Monday.

Police spokesperson Brigadier Jay Naicker said more arrests were expected.

Naicker said a gang of heavily armed men allegedly robbed two jewellery stores.

“The suspects fired shots in the air as they made their getaway and, fortunately, no person was injured.

“Phoenix police officers, who were stationed in proximity to the mall, immediately responded and there was a shoot-out between the police officers and the suspects on the Phoenix Highway.

The gang, who were armed with high-calibre firearms, caused extensive damage to the police vehicle before fleeing with their loot. The police officers were able to escape unscathed during the attack.”

Business robbers ‘mistakenly’ shoot at each other during Durban mall heist​


A business robbery turned dangerously awkward on Monday when the perpetrators “mistakenly” fired at each other at the Workshop Shopping Centre in Durban’s CBD.

Provincial police spokesperson Capt Nqobile Gwala said four men stormed the centre at 8am and held up staff at a popular clothing store.

Video footage of a robbery at a Carnival shopping centre jewellery store on Sunday, in which two robbers were killed, shows the terrifying moments when the gunmen struck.

In the video, shoppers can be seen leaning against counters and looking at jewellery at American Swiss. One man, who was dressed in jeans and a black and white shirt, can also be seen among them in a corner of the store.

Suddenly, a man dressed in black storms into the store and points a gun at someone behind the counter. Another man, who is holding a blue bag, joins him and runs to the person behind the counter while shoppers flee.

Cellphones stolen during robbery at Mall of the South recovered in Joburg’s Smal Street

Pretoria – Police in Gauteng have arrested four suspects who were found in possession of numerous mobile phones that were allegedly taken during a robbery at Mall Of The South last month.

Gauteng SAPS spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo said police officers from the Highway Patrol Unit were on routine patrol when they received information about the cellphones that were stolen at Mall Of The South.

Police reacted promptly and proceeded to a shop at Small Street in Johannesburg CBD. Upon searching the shop, police found multiple cellphones inside the box,” said Masondo.

“Four suspects, aged between 24 and 26, who were at the shop, were arrested and charged with possession of suspected stolen goods.”

Nine arrested while travelling to rob a shopping mall in Mpumalanga​

Pretoria - Seven people were arrested by the SAPS in Mpumalanga while they were allegedly on a mission to commit a business robbery at a furniture store in KwaMhlanga.
Mpumalanga police spokesperson Brigadier Selvy Mohlala said the seven suspects, aged between 32 and 47, were nabbed on Sunday afternoon at Phola Mall in KwaMhlanga.
“According to the (SAPS) report, police received information about a possible business robbery that was allegedly planned to be carried out at a furniture business. Police acted with speed to prevent that from happening,” said Mohlala.
“They (police officers from KwaMhlanga crime intelligence and members of Siyabuswa visible policing unit) co-ordinated their resources and went out looking for the suspects. They then spotted two vehicles, a Toyota Etios with false registration number plates and a VW Kombi with seven suspects who were apparently armed.”
A shoot-out between the suspects and police ensued, and two of the assailants were shot and injured.

UPDATE: No shots fired, Gateway Mall spokesperson says after 5 armed men hit jewellery store

Five armed robbers used a hammer to break open glass cases at a jewellery store in the Gateway Theatre of Shopping on Sunday morning.

Police spokesperson Colonel Thembeka Mbele said the suspects, armed with guns, entered the shop at 09:23.


They used a hammer to break open glass cases and stole an undisclosed amount of jewellery [watches] and expensive bags," Mbele confirmed.

Former police crime intelligence officer arrested in mall robbery

A former sergeant at the police crime intelligence unit was among four suspects arrested after storming into a shop and robbing staff at a mall in Mpumalanga.

The suspects, aged 30 to 39, stormed into the shop at Ilanga Mall in Mbombela on Monday “where they held the employees hostage, tied them with cable ties before robbing them of cellphones, laptops as well as cash and computer boxes”, said police spokesperson Brig Selvy Mohlala.

“Meanwhile, one of the workers at the shop was fortunately inside the bathroom during the ... robbery and this employee managed to call for help.

Expensive taste: alleged robber shot dead after five men rob Fabiani shop in Pretoria

Pretoria – The Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD) said five armed people robbed the Fabiani shop at Wonderpark shopping centre and fled the scene with bags of clothes.

“TMPD K9 members and other law enforcement officials gave chase to the suspects. The suspects opened fire and a shootout between the suspects and the officers ensued,” said TMPD spokesperson, Senior Superintendent Isaac Mahamba.

Alleged robber killed, guard injured in mall shootout in Johannesburg

One person died and a security official was injured following a shootout at Trade Route Mall in Lenasia, Johannesburg, on Wednesday afternoon.

The head of Lethal Force Security at Trade Route Mall, Shahim Ismail, said there was a robbery at a nearby suburb in "extension 8" and three individuals fled on foot.

Ismail said the three were chased by another security company, with one running inside the mall and the other two going in the opposite direction.

The one, who fled inside the mall, was armed and fired shots, hitting one of the guards.

Worker allegedly raped during Soweto mall robbery

A Mr Price store at Diepkloof Square in Soweto has been robbed and an employee allegedly raped.

According to eyewitnesses, who spoke to News24 at the scene, several suspects robbed the store and fled in two vehicles on Thursday morning.

One staff member said the woman, who was allegedly raped, started working at the store two days ago.

She added the woman was found by one of the robbers in the changing rooms and allegedly raped.

16 suspects? What a missed opportunity, hopefully we have at least 10 dead bodies by next week. They must not be too bright if all 16 of them thought a Mr Price store was a good gig, I would look at the closest hostel.
 
Sickening, I hope they all come to a terrible and slow painful demise very soon.
