The Silver Surfer Thread (iBurst 2Mbps Modem)

What I don't understand is why I get basically the same result without the splitter? Would I have been better off just getting a second omni?
Also, why do I keep getting disconnected at night? Once again I woke up this morning to my PC sitting idly.

Thanks r00i
I've turned the antennae perpendicular, at the moment the best result I can get is:

Will test again tonight.

The best I've been able to get ever was:
1.52 Mb/s Down
0.50 Mb/s Up

How does that look?

That is reasonable dependant on your area. I have some !@#$%^&*() that has built a mansion between the BTS and me and get about the same speeds. Speeds vary on load which is more noticeable on downlink.

Well, the weather has been a bummer lately. What is your location?

True, but I've never had this many disconnects before - the last 3 weeks - 75% of the time the connection would have disconnected when I checked on it in the morning.
Edit: I'm in Durban

2mpbs modem needds new firmware

Having issues with my new 2mbps modem. 0.24 download speed. signal at -70db. The last answer from iburst advanced support is 2meg modem needs new firmware and they don't know when it is coming. I have been a happy 1meg client for about four years. Anyone know something about these 2meg modem problems?

It took 2minutes of waiting before I could start typing in this thread.

I'm having speed issues as well.

My speed is about 1 quarter of what it was about a week ago.

Was also double debited!

I'm not impressed!!!

I've decided that I'm going to cancel my iBurst Wireless 15. I'm going the prepaid 3G route - specifically with Vodacom 20GB special for R499.

My speeds are actually disgusting. Downloading at 6-7KB/s. pings are at 600-700.

Where we are ; no telkom lines "cabletheft" , cellphone signals drop all the time. If I had a choice I would have returned my modem and left iburst a month ago already. I just find them unable to sort people's problems out. Surely when you start a company like that you need to know what problems can arise and be able to deal with them asap. 'So because a reboot does not fix your problem, suddenly your modem needs new firmware' Sounds fishy to me.

Odd i have no problems with the 2Mb modem? but i noticed a few threads about people having problems
Are you conecting directly to you pc or via a router?

Having the same issues. Terrible download speeds.
Tried directly to PC and through the Linksys WR54GL router and still can't get anywhere near 1Mbps, never mind 2Mbps even at night where I could usually see 2+Mbps........

I'm getting 1.5Mbps - but it cost me an antenna and splitter... and I'm less than 500m from the closest tower. Trees and wotnot.

Some of my previous daytime Speedtest results (please note the times the tests were done):

Pretty decent for during the day or not?

I am lucky if I get this during the day now:

Nothing has changed. Modem still in exactly the same spot, still with 100% signal. Speeds went to a snails pace lately.
I highly doubt the firmware is to blame with the terrible speeds.

Haha.. It's cost me the 2mb modem, splitter and i bought both, omni and directional antennae thinking that the directional was problematic. The service is completely unusable. I've PM'd rooi and haven't received any help.

Do yourselves the favor! Buy a Vodacom K4605 modem and go to Poynting to purchase the pigtail with an external antenna. I get 32% signal and last night I got speed tests of 2.95mb/s with 55ms pings. iBurst speeds and service have become a joke.

Who wants my old iBurst equipment?

I used to have great speeds with my 1meg. It all started after upgrading to uncapped and installing 2meg modem. I am just happy that this site still opens. I have tried everything; connecting through router, tried directly to different pc's. Rebooted a million times:pc's, router, modem.
I think I am capped but no-one can say for sure.

Have you tried connecting with the old modem??

Yes, iburst advanced support says only one modem per username on ibuncapped.co.za
So frustrating. Just trying to load this is a pain. 'No speedtest.net, no youtube.com'
pathetic

I cannot even load speedtest.net. I just hope that it is something that gets sorted soon. At least I still get e-mail and can type on this forum. Yah for 21st century technology. Wish I knew how to 'smiley' a finger.
