While most South Africans buy cars with a sheeple mentality for some it is the small things that can be a deal breaker. I am curious as to what small things are a big deal for others so please feel free to comment and share your preferences.

For me there are some things that a car simply should have :
  • Two reverse lights, its better than one.
  • Full sized spare wheel, I still want to go fast after a flat.
  • Non-slanted center console. BMW figured this one out eventually.
  • Window wipers that always return even after the ignition is switched off.

How can they still sell cars with wipers like this :

Two reverse lights + 2 rear fog lights usually go hand in hand.

On my car, I failed to realise that there is no rest pedal and no arm rest handle thingies above the windows! That's crazy, I have no where to hang my suits!! :(

personally I love the driver oriented E36 BMW dashboard and console.
Compared to a Corolla, for example, i dont have to reach half way across the cabin to adjust the volume or the a/c

Full Size Spare Wheel FTW
Battery in the Boot. Rather handy for jump starting in certain circumstances.
Fully adjustable seats. My back thanks me every day.

The back lights MUST be symmetrical. I hate nothing more than there being 2 different lights on the back of the car.
Eg: Nissan Murano - Reverse lights / Fog Light, VW Golf, Ford Focus (I think it is)

Indicator must be on the right. I cannot be bothered to get used to it on the other side now.

Central armrest for the driver

Hate:
Wheel size, 16" 195 45 expensive and rare tyres that pop easily on pot holes.

Like:
Automatic lights and windscreen wipers, keyless entry, auxiliary input

Some guy rammed my rear a few weeks back and now the car doesn't notify me that my keys have left the car so sometimes I drop off the SO and she forgets the keys in her bag, the car stays on but if I switch off the car somewhere I'm stuck.

Oh yeah, forgot about the coat hooks in the back. Not that I use them much but its good to have them.

Another big small thing is center speedo binacle - unless its a McLaren F1 there is no reason to put it in the middle. Just shows how cheap the manufacturer is because they try to cut corners between LHD and RHD models.

What car is this?

Love:
- Just about slashed my monthly fuel bill in half. Granted I am paying more in installments, but it is nice only having to hit the pumps twice a month and not 3 or 4 times.
- For 114k it gives you a big car feel with heavy doors that close with a quality thud and a very smooth & quiet ride.

Hate:
- Only the drivers door has a keyhole and the car doesn't have remote central locking. Sorry ladies, I can't be a gentleman anymore.
- Seatbelt warning alarm. I always drive with my belt on but I don't need to be shouted at when I'm negotiating the parking lot at a speed barely faster than walking pace.

Love:
Electric windows that closes when you lock the car via remote.
Big storage in doors. At least 2l bottle!

Hate:
Shiny bling stuff that fall off after the first bump.
Need to unlock fuel flap with ignition key.

Eish, Rouxy has again found something to complain about on a VW after a long silence. If that's all he doesn't like, the car must be quite good.
Can't wait for the next anti VW thread, enjoy it while you can. ;):D

Keyless fuel flap, the thing that stopped me from choosing a fiesta was that I had to hand keys over each time I fill up.

-Boots/trunks and fuel flaps that open from the inside.
-Beep when lights left on or lights switch off when engine off.

Can't believe the number of modern vehicles that don't have this.
