The Starfield thread

That's how Bethesda games work though. I always finish the rather short main stories in games like Elder Scrolls first then I'm free to explore and do everything else the games have to offer when I want, how I want at my own pace. I assume I'll do the same when I get to Starfield.
Out of curiosity... what stops you from exploring and doing what you want at your own pace before finishing the main story? There are very few things that are gatekept by the main quests.

It's interesting because I typically play the opposite way, I go exploring and adventuring and get around to a main quest when I'm in the area or something.

Starfield I've just played on an ad hoc basis - which mission is of interest right now?
The other night I was doing a main storyline quest when I got a distress call in space - random side quest. Went and did it and it was a fantastic little story arc with nothing to do with anything, just a well written side quest with some fun and a bit of loot at the end. That's my preferred way of playing, the wayward adventurer out to see what's what.

Yeah, I kinda jump around all over the place, too.

I'm already 50+ hours in and only finished Into the Unknown a day or two ago. Nearly maxxed all the research, though. Proper OCD tic with those for some dumb reason.

Pro-tip for levelling up the weapon and space suit design/research skills that require 5/15/30 mods to be applied, if you don't feel like going through the massive slog of applying different, expensive mods to different items...

Choose one upgrade for a weapon/piece of equipment (for example - ballistic shielding on a helmet) that only costs minimal amount of an easily acquired resource.

Apply that upgrade, then apply 'no mod', then apply the same upgrade again - repeat. Each application of the mod and each application of 'no mod' counts toward the required total.

Nothing, it's just the way I like to play Bethesda games. Don't get me wrong, I still do a lot of exploring and stuff in between main missions but I don't stray too far. If I come across a side mission along the way I might finish it but I prefer to keep all the side stuff for afterwards. More relaxing that way lol.

Like in Oblivion there are those annoying Oblivion gates during the main story but they're gone once you complete the game and no more will open. Don't have to worry about them anymore and the world just feels calmer and more relaxed for me to tackle everything else. The worlds in Bethesda games always feel and look different after the main quests and it's just more fun that way imo.

I always focus on the main quests first, followed by big faction quests like guilds etc then every other side mission with lots of exploration in between. I've tried focusing on side stuff first in the past but it doesn't work for me at all. Feels like a waste and role-playing wise it just makes more sense for me to get the urgent stuff out of the way first. I'm trying to save the world damnit, stop asking me to go fetch a book

I can understand QOL mods and I know everybody plays the game their own way but I don't understand why you would use mods to level yourself or your skills. The whole point of the game for me is growth while you quest and pushing harder and harder.

You might not have wanted to read the spoiler but my understanding was that this was to do with applying mods to weapons/space suits not about modding the game. It was a useful tip for me as I haven't yet got to that stuff!

QOL we must get that I can think of:

Press to Eat. (confirmed by Beth)
Delete custom map/landing zone marker ( this.....so much) Nothing like going to a planet/moon and landing on 2 different spots than the one I intended!!
Search Function for Inventory.
Galaxy Map search Function. ( or is this in and I haven't found it?)
A vehicle (quad/rover) and vehicle bay for ships will be lovely.
NEBULAS!!!
Individual trackers for missing research items. Not the whole list.
Ship collisions does damage.

what are your ideas?

1. City map
2. Everything else

Unfortunately it seems like we're getting 2 first...

To be fair, the powers, a significant part of the game, are gatekept by the main story

In skyrim you just need to play the main story until you unlock your first power, then you can get all the others at your own pace while ignoring the main story

In Starfield you need to play the main story to get all the powers

So yesterday I fell through the floor in new atlantis. Of course I did what any good gamer dev would. Go look at the chests below the merchants...
