The Super PSP Thread

It's because we only post in here like once every 1- 2 weeks

And it's because all everybody talks about in this thread is CFM and CFM installation and CFM versions and where to place PSP images and Pandora kits, and did I mention CFM....err...you get my point. It's a rather boring thread.

What about PSP game reviews, news, previews, tips, secrets, etc

Yeah, this thread needs to be more diverse, more multi faceted.

What's the latest good games on the psp at the moment?

The last good game that I've played is Crisis Core and currently I'm playing this brain game called PQ2. A great way to test your wits!

Phantasy Star Portable coming to US

Sega of America quietly told reporters at TGS that their "secret PSP game" was in fact, a localized version of Phantasy Star Portable -- a fact made not-so-secret when Kotaku ran their story today. It's true: PSP is coming to the PSP. Phantasy Star features the same addictive Ad-Hoc multiplayer that made Monster Hunter such a hit amongst Japanese gamers -- and it looks pretty, to boot.

I really don't understand why you guys want to kill the psp. If you love it so much why not buy original games? You know, so more games get released for the system. If games don't sell no games will get made.

i've only got original psp and it's gonna stay that way.

Custom firmware 5.00 m33 is out. (Sorry DW...)

:p

I guess the custom firmware is mostly used for playing emulation and psp without UMD swapping...I don't really mind using UMD and have a PC for emulation so CFW does not really interest me :) Well that's my 2c

Anyway...some great PSP news, bargains, previews and more coming in the next few minutes so keep your eye on this thread :)

PSP Store for PSP will breed new types of games

Giving the PSP direct access to the PlayStation Store may not kill the UMD disc, according to Sony, but it's certainly going to change the way games are distributed.

With digital distribution, Sony hopes to ignite a new breed of games to be released on the handheld. Says SCEE's Zeno Colaco (same guy who said that the PS Store won't kill the UMD format):

It gives publishers and developers much more scope in relation to the types of games they can release.

If they want to make a massive game, then they can do that, as before, as a boxed product on UMD. But if they want to do a smaller game just released online, or add downloadable content such as new characters to a UMD game, they can do that too.

I have to be careful what I say but publishers are definitely exploring more opportunities in terms of the types of games they can release on PSP, even in terms of more female-oriented games, puzzlers and less hardcore games.

Well you can imagine the possibilities. Being able to distribute smaller gamers digitally would really open the doors for the PSP. If devs decide to flood the PS Store with casual games, that means the PSP is no longer the "hardcore" handheld platform.

If that happens, that means more PSP sales, which means more devs would be interested in making games for the PSP, which means more PSP games. Now let's just hope it won't take the WiiWare route and get flooded with shovelware.

Patapon 2: bigger, badder and more badass

How big is Patapon 2? Well, take the original game ... and then multiply it by two. The upcoming PSP-exclusive sequel will feature a staggering amount of content which makes the original seem rather diminutive. While the first featured 37 levels, Patapon 2 Don Chaka will feature over 80. There were 187 weapons and items in the original -- and over 500 in the new game. Not only that, Patapon 2 will also feature a new multiplayer mode.

While critics and fans have embraced Patapon's unique gameplay, the new content expansion should make the sequel much more appealing to newcomers and veterans alike. The core gameplay remains largely untouched -- each of the face buttons represents a certain sound, and pressing button combinations to the beat will command the Patapon to march, retreat and attack. However, they've added a new twist to the formula. Enter: the Hero Patapon.

Players wanted a more personal interaction with their Patapon. With the Hero Patapon, they'll get just that. The Hero has an expanded set of moves and greater HP, making it far deadlier than the standard Patapon. While Patapon were fairly expendable in the original, players will want the Hero to stay alive. As it can be named by the player, many may think of it as their own unique "pet" in the game.
