The Super PSP Thread

Dark-AleX.org forum closes, is Dark AleX leaving too?

Alek, the Admin and Webmaster of Dark-AleX.org, has announced that they are closing down the sites forum after more than one year of existence. The Dark-AleX.org forum is the home of Dark AleX's great homebrew releases, a place for various developers to chat and exchange ideas and a great reference for the homebrew community.

According to Alek, there are many reasons why they want to close the forum :

The forum, by itself, has been a challenge. A challenge that, without any doubt, has exceeded all of our expectations, and a challenge that now, after all that we have been through, we find ourselves happy and proud of having gone this far. However, its, professionally speaking, a moment for evolving and taking ourselves a little time for relax and so we can study whats next.

Since the beginning, the people' answer has been something amazing and indescribable, something that we won't have enough grateful words, and that fills us of satisfaction. This support has been so huge that we have found ourselves overwhelmed, and when we wanted to give the deserved service for each user, we have gone into problems and we have got to take this hard but consistent decition; that, the same way as we wield a smile when all this was starting, this last decition makes us sad, but we know that is the best choice at the moment.

Again, thanks to all, to our moderators, to our friends, to our old and new partners, to the English Zone and their help to this project, and everyone of you that have helped us on any terms.

So for now, we bid farewell to one of the great PSP homebrew resources on the net. But what will happen to Dark AleX you asked? Well, you'll never know...

Is there anyone currently in PE who Custom Firmwares PSP's? I know of someone that needs it done. Let me know and I'll PM you his details.

Thanks!

Yoshihiro’s 5.55 & 6.00 Games Decrypter Released

In short: use this tool to decrypt the firmware 5.55 or 6.00 EBOOT.BIN from whatever [legitimately purchased UMD] game, build an ISO image using UMDGen with the decrypted EBOOT, and botta bing botta boom — you’re playing on Custom Firmware 5.50 GEN-B.

The steps:

Install 5.55 & 6.00 Games Decrypter like any other homebrew.
Boot into 5.50 GEN’s recovery console by holding R-TRIGGER on boot.
Go to Configuration -> XMB Usb Device -> change to UMD Disc.
Enable USB mode from the XMB; copy UMD9660.ISO to your local; open UMDGen.
In UMDGen open the UMD9660.ISO file.
Navigate to PSP_GAME/SYSDIR; highlight EBOOT.BIN; right-click -> Extract Selected…
Save it somewhere; boot into the recovery console again (See step 1); set the USB mode back to Memory Stick (See step 2).
Enable USB from the XMB again; copy the encrypted EBOOT.BIN to your memory stick root.
Exit out of USB mode and run the Games Decrypter app.
Enable USB mode one more time.
If you closed UMDGen, reopen it and open UMD9660.ISO; browse to PSP_GAME/SYSDIR.
From the newly created DECRYPTOR directory on your memory stick, drag & drop the unencrypted EBOOT.BIN to the right windowpane in UMDGen overwriting the original file.
Save the ISO; copy it to the ISO directory on your memory stick.
You’re done.

This apparently works with M33 as well.

Greetings all!
I just got myself a white PSP 1004 today :D. I still need to organise a memory stick though.
What I want to know is using ChickHEN to install CFW possible and safe?
I don't exactly have any more cash to buy a Pandora battery...

Okay my last two posts can be disregarded. I bought a memory card from makro and installed ChickHen R2 without success. Then I tried R2 Mod2 and it worked first time! Then using Hellcat I installed CFW. But now my question is: is that firmware permanent? Or if I reboot will it be back to OFW?
Why I ask is because I saw it writing to the flash mem, and afterwards it rebooted and all was still well.

Yes, it's installed permanently, unless ofcourse the firmware is upgraded/modified again.

O_o Wow thats cool!
I kinda freaked out when I saw it was writing to the flash, and I was wondering if that was just some kind of in memory flash.
Thanks!

Okay, so I got myself an old PSP phat. It needs some work. The outside is a bit scratched an worn, so I am looking for a replacement shell. Is there anyone in CT that do have old broken PSP 1004's? I could most likely get from BoB, but would prefer it if it was directly from someone in CT.

Edit: Oh and yes, if there is anyone who offers CF services, let me know. I don't particularly feel like doing CF again on my own just yet. But I've got the itch.

Can anyone point me to a download link for the PSP 3004's firmware? I cannot connect it to my wireless here at work, as I am running 300mbps APs and it says, not supported on the PSP.
