Don't you guy think it will turn out like Iraq, once iternational support leaves groups will reform,during that time bombs will cause instability, I suspect Russia is being sucked in the same trap us fell into in Libya,Iraq .

Fighting rages in Syria's Aleppo amid ceasefire talks

Heavy clashes have taken place between the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), backed by Russian air strikes, and rebel factions at a former military airbase near the border with Turkey, a monitoring group and activists have said.

The fierce fight for control of Aleppo province continued on Thursday as diplomats from major powers sat down in Munich to discuss the Syrian peace process - including a proposal from Moscow for a nationwide ceasefire to start in March.

The Syrian government, backed by Russian air strikes, launched a major offensive from the north of Aleppo and captured several strategically important towns earlier this month.

The offensive has led to the displacement of more than 50,000 civilians from Aleppo, tens of thousands of whom have massed in camps at the Turkish border.

On Thursday, Kurdish fighters, backed by Russian air strikes, captured a former military airbase near the rebel-held town of Azaz in Aleppo province, the UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported.

"The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) have captured the Menagh airbase following heavy clashes with Ahrar al-Sham and al-Nusra front," Taj Kordsh, an SDF spokesman told Al Jazeera on Thursday

"Russian air strikes have backed and helped the SDF fighters capture this airbase which is close to the Turkish border."

Sami Kekhia, a Syrian activist on the Turkey-Syria border confirmed to Al Jazeera that the airbase has been captured by the Kurdish fighters.

The SDF was founded in Syria's mainly Kurdish northeastern region in October 2015, and is made up of at least 15 armed factions - mostly fighters from the Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG) and the Free Syrian Army.

The fighters include Christians, Arabs and about 500 foreign fighters, Kordsh said, adding that some groups in Aleppo and Idlib pledged allegiance to the SDF last month.

The latest clashes come as world leaders, including the US, Russia, Saudi Arabia and Iran met in Munich on Thursday with the aim of restarting the peace talks between the government and Syrian opposition.

Russia has proposed a nationwide ceasefire and is waiting for a reaction from international powers, Russia's Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Thursday

"We have put forward our proposals on a ceasefire, which are rather concrete," Lavrov said prior to meeting US Secretary of State John Kerry, according to the TASS news agency.

"We are waiting for an answer from the US before offering it for consideration of the International Syria Support Group."

Al Jazeera's Rory Challands, reporting from Moscow, said that the US and its allies would probably view Russia's truce offer with scepticism.

"The US concerns are that this gives the offensive that's currently ongoing in the Aleppo region more time to push the rebels back, possibly going so far as a full military victory," said Challands.

The Syrian government holds the west of Aleppo, Syria's largest city, while the rebels hold the east, but the situation is largely reversed in the countryside.

Thousands flee Aleppo

At least 50,000 Syrians have fled the fighting in Aleppo, the International Committee of the Red Cross said on Wednesday, adding that water supplies have been disrupted in some parts of the province.

Salah Eldine, an activist in Aleppo, told Al Jazeera on Thursday that hundreds of internally displaced Syrians have arrived to the town of Daret Ezzeh.

"They are sending people by bus from the town of Azaz, near the border with Turkey, to Afreen and finally to Daret Ezzeh.

"We have all opened our houses to them, but we are running out of supplies as many buses continue to arrive. In the past 24 hours at least 50 buses full of people have arrived. They are in terrible condition,"Salah Eldine said.

"The fighting around has intensified and has not stopped in days. The air strikes have not stopped either, who knows we might all have to leave here soon," he added.

The Observatory reported on Wednesday that at least 500 people, including 89 civilians, have been killed since the offensive began on February 1.

Russian PM warns of world war if troops sent in

Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev has warned that the deployment of foreign ground troops in the Syrian conflict could result in a world war.

Medvedev was quoted as saying in an interview published late on Thursday by the German newspaper Handelsblatt that "a ground operation draws everyone taking part in it into a war".

When asked about a recent proposal from Saudi Arabia to send in ground troops to Syria, the Russian prime minister answered that "the Americans and our Arab partners must consider whether or not they want a permanent war".

Al Jazeera's Rory Challands, reporting from Moscow, said Medvedev's comments were an explicit warning to the United States and its regional allies, including Saudi Arabia.
"He basically told them to back off on sending troops because if they did, this might result in some sort of interminable or even a world war."

Medvedev also criticised Western powers' refusal to collaborate with Russia in Syria. The prime minister said ties at the level of defence departments were only sporadic.
US Defense Secretary Ashton Carter, meanwhile, welcomed a commitment from Saudi Arabia to expand its role in Syria against the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) group.

At a gathering of more than two dozen defence ministers at NATO headquarters on Thursday, Saudi Arabia renewed the possibility of sending ground forces into the conflict.
"Saudi Arabia's defence minister ... indicated that the kingdom is reinvigorating its commitment to the coalition air campaign, which is very welcome news, and contributing in other critical ways on the ground," Carter said after the talks in Brussels.

Saudi Arabia's Brigadier General Ahmed Asseri said his country was ready to send troops into Syria if there was a consensus in the anti-ISIL coalition. But he declined to elaborate, saying: "It is too early to talk about such options.

A ground operation draws everyone taking part in it into a war. The Americans must consider – both the US president and our Arab partners – whether or not they want a permanent war. Are they hoping for a quick victory? This doesn’t happen in reality, particularly in the Arab world. They have everyone fighting everyone. They don’t have a situation where there is al-Assad and his loyal forces and some anti-government opposition. The reality is much more complex. This means that a war will last for years, if not decades. Why would anyone want that? We must make everyone sit down to the negotiating table, and we can do it by using, among other things, the harsh measures that are being implemented by Russia, the Americans, and even, with all reservations, the Turks, rather than start yet another war in the world. The filthy and unreliable russian dogs are trying their best to kill of the Syrian despot's foes and any resistance before the peace talks result in a meaningful effect. Well back to more sanctions then, let the dogs suffer more. Let Putin devil cry his guts out.

That letter is about as fake as fake can be, it looks like it was typed out on a very old typewriter with a second hand ribbon onto a photocopied letterhead knocked up by a 419 scammer in a Lagos back alley. The letterhead isn't straight!

Do an image search on Google and see what real UN documents/letterheads look like.
