The Tornadoes, Cyclones, Hurricanes & Typhoons Thread.

More on the way! One Intense Tropical Cyclone (Ambali) formed literally out of nothing in a few hours on the 3rd December.
A second one still classified as a moderate tropical storm formed on the 2nd and is intensifying slower than Ambali.

Watch this space! I checked on the 1st and only again today only to see that I missed them!.

Ambali is a bit of a surprise! Models have been showing some potential for several days, but nothing really developed until now.

Thanks Gordon. I still cannot access the above sites from home. Yet, when I go to CT, I am able to. And I have failed to get ANY help from Telkom Internet to analyse why routing fails for me at home.

A weak tropical cyclone is passing very close to Mauritius today (Mon 30th), and will produce some wind and rain, but likely no damage. The name is interesting 05S Calvinia.

The storm has been upgraded in the last few hours leading to the closing of the Mauritius Airport and the cancelation of all flights. Winds in excess of 120 kph are predicted.
Shows how fast things can change.

'Tornado' spotted in Northern Cape after thunderstorm warning

What appears to have been a tornado was spotted in the Northern Cape on Tuesday afternoon.

Weather service Saws had earlier issued a warning about severe thunderstorms with hail and damaging winds over parts of the province.

“Severe thunderstorms are observed over the southeastern parts of the Northern Cape, with possible damaging hail and winds (tornado), heavy downpours and excessive lightning moving southeast,” it said in a tweet.

Images of a tornado were captured by a resident near Richmond.

Very heavy rain recorded on the farm in the Hanover area. Road impassable at the moment farmhouse cut off in all directions by river courses that have not had water in them for more than 5 years.

Glad there is water but sorry that they are in a precarious position

Yeah while our attention has been somewhere else, plenty of storms have been brewing and disappearing in the Southern Indian Ocean basin.
