The Tornadoes, Cyclones, Hurricanes & Typhoons Thread.

The first Cyclone, Alicia, a Tropical cyclone started Nov, 12 and lasted till Nov, 17. The official start date was Nov 15.
Petered out quickly with no damage. Also had a Tropical Depression in the meantime.
Bongoyo is classified as a Severe Tropical Storm at the moment.

Australia is currently experiencing a La Niña weather pattern, which typically brings more rainfall and tropical cyclones during the nation's summer.

Moderate intensity tropical storm Chalane has developed over the Mozambique Channel, and is expected to make landfall overnight (into Wed 30th). Moderately strong winds are likely, and fairly heavy rainfall (100-200mm) is predicted over central Mozambique, up to the eastern highlands of Zimbabwe:

Very unusual predicted track. Been watching this develop since Xmas day. If it decides to veer south, we are in for a very interesting few days.

It's so close to land, and the short-term track is so consistent, that it is very unlikely to have any effects outside the area shown on the rainfall chart I posted.

We will see pretty soon. There has been a slight deviation southwards but too early really to tell what it is going to do.
 
Moderate Tropical Storm Eloise is predicted to cross over Madagascar into the channel and head straight for us. If it keeps going Mozambique and the northern parts of SA are in for some heavy rain!

Tropical Cyclone Eloise has been upgraded to STS status.
The cyclone has made landfall over the north eastern part of Madagascar.
The forecast has been updated making its path more certain and if it successfully crosses over Madagascar, it will intensify again.
