SVI-armoured Toyota Hilux Undergoes Series of Gruelling Tests
SVI dropped an armoured Hilux on its roof from two metres high as part of the final stages of punishing tests.
SVI Engineering have demonstrated the durability of the B6 Stopgun V2.0 armoured package for the Toyota Hilux with a series of tests. These include a full ballistic onslaught, a riot-style attack and a punishing two metre drop test.
In the first test, the armoured Hilux took fire from a 9 mm, DM5 and AK47, which were simultaneously discharged at the bakkie’s body and glass. After a thorough examination, it was determined that no rounds had pierced through the armour.
For the second test, the Hilux withstood a riot-style attack, which included a range of impact weapons such as rocks, a hammer, a crowbar and a pick-axe, being used against the Hilux by the SVI team. Despite their best efforts, they were unable to gain entry to the cabin.
The final test was the most extreme of all; the Hilux endured a two-metre drop onto a solid concrete surface. This was intended to test the B6 Stopgun V2.0 package’s built-in rollover protection provided by the armoured steel structure surrounding the cabin. The result? Minor deformation on the roof, proving their B6 Stopgun V2.0 kit as a tried and tested product.

1981 Toyota Hilux Sold for Over R600k
Complete with a retro-inspired paint finish, this nuts-and-bolts restored Toyota Hilux features a four-speed manual transmission and a fully refurbished interior.
Sold for $37 000, which equates to R635 687 at the current Rand-Dollar exchange rate, at a recent Bring A Trailer auction, this 1980s third-generation Toyota Hilux 4×4 was purchased in 2025 by its previous owner, who completed a full nuts-and-bolt restoration, including a white, red, yellow, and orange retro paint finish.
Completing the look is a set of 15-inch six-spoke chrome wheels, fitted with 30×9.5-inch BF Goodrich all-terrain tyres, and spotlights mounted above the rear sports bar, giving the bakkie a similar aesthetic to the Toyota Hilux from Back to the Future.
The Hilux was stripped to the bare shell before each body panel was repaired, and the chassis sand-blasted and restored. The suspension and steering system were upgraded with a set of Rancho shocks, rebuilt steering knuckles, a new steering stabiliser, leaf spring bushings and tie rod ends.
The bench seat was reupholstered in brown houndstooth cloth with vinyl accents, and a new air-conditioning system was fitted to the dashboard. The bakkie’s original AM/FM radio remains.

A fresh leak showcasing the interior of the upcoming new Toyota Hilux has surfaced on social media.
In August 2025, a leaked brochure showcasing the upcoming new Toyota Hilux’s exterior surfaced online, along with a patent drawing giving us a glimpse into how the ninth-generation’s interior could look like. Now, a more detailed image of the 2026 model’s dashboard has emerged on social media.
Posted by Kurdistan Automotive Blog on Instagram, the design elements seen on the dashboard seem to resemble those depicted on the patent drawing. This includes a new, angular housing for the instrument binnacle; a larger central infotainment touchscreen; redesigned front air events; and a duo of gloveboxes. The redesigned dashboard also incorporates cupholders.

As the reveal of the new Toyota Hilux nears, a camouflaged example has been spotted in public.
Although Toyota has yet to announce when the new Hilux will make its official global debut, reports have suggested that the ninth generation will be revealed at the 2025 Thailand Motor Expo, which will take place from 28 November to 10 December. However, while we wait for official word on the upcoming version’s unveiling, a camouflaged example has been spotted overseas.
Posted on Instagram page pickup_guate with the caption (translated) ‘it’s a matter of time’ – likely referencing the new Hilux’s imminent debut – the images showcase the box-fresh model at a fuel station. Although wrapped, a few styling elements of the ninth iteration is noticeable – the most being the front facia’s sharper styling, which includes tapered headlamps and a redesigned grille, which we first saw in leaked brochure images in August 2025.

After a string of leaked images and plenty of speculation, the first teaser of the new Toyota Hilux has been released, with the Japanese brand also confirming the next-generation bakkie’s official reveal date.
Yes, Toyota Motor Thailand has released a short teaser video that includes a handful of shadowy shots of what will be the 9th-generation Hilux. The 15-second clip (which we’ve embedded below) also confirms a reveal date of 10 November 2025.
As with the outgoing model, the new Toyota Hilux will be built in several factories around the world, including Thailand. The latest version of the bakkie is also expected to again be produced at Toyota SA Motors’ Prospecton facility in KwaZulu-Natal. The brand’s local division has yet to announce a launch date, but an official market introduction is expected at some point in 2026.
But back to the new bakkie. While official details are still very thin on the ground, it appears that the new Hilux will retain the IMV platform of the current-generation version rather than switching to Toyota’s more advanced TNGA-F underpinnings. In fact, spy shots suggest the doors and certain panels will be carried over.
