SRC Statement:

You'd think students have more important things to focus on than a f#cking statue.

A tradition like sixes by sevens in which students drink copious amounts of alcohol and vomit on each other, never mind the wild parties thrown at residences, all require workers to clean up the vomit and mess of the very privileged students of this university. The workers continue to remain invisible at the university, even around issues that deeply affect them.

So is it only white students doing that? Taking my experience with UJ in to account, I doubt it. That place looks like it was struck by a nuke after lunch hours and late on a Friday.

YOSSOSS ... that honkey is just begging for a swift kick in the sweets

Keep looking at that picture and it looks disturbingly like someone I am related to...

If so, he has a LOT of white privilege to dispose of

Cecil John Rhodes statue is no the issue here. The deeper problem is not being addressed. I have experienced and observed instances of racial tensions at UCT in the 90s even during a time it was lead by Ms Ramphele. The route cause will not be solved by removing Cecil John Rhodes statue.

No no no. You don't understand. Workers don't want to work. They want money for free. No matter who creates the work. Its work you see.... But that is the view of the privileged black people at the uni not the workers themselves that might just be thankful to have an income. But lets focus on the black privilege statement moaning about white privilege while crapping in his hands to throw at a statue...

Its students. The little logic they have is divided between whether it is better to study or have another beer. Chuck them out of uni. If they hate it so much there they can mos go just where they want. Democracy and all those choice and freedom things..

Well...exactly.

This is just a superficial way to think that 'progress' (however that is defined) is being made.

So the statue gets destroyed...and then what?

Why stop with removing a statue or two, the white man is responsible for all infrastructure... so, burn down schools and universities, dig up the roads(whats left of them) destroy all hospitals, smash the dams and reservoirs, destroy the power stations(not that eskom needs much help), while we at it, planes, trains and automobiles can go too

You are being silly and dramatic.

Yep...e.g.

If the behavior below is an issue, then they need to find route cause. If it was Cecil John Rhodes statue, I think it would have been targeted during the 1991 UCT protests. The issues regarding workers are not going to be solved by students.

We support the workers of this university. These workers, for some of us, are our parents, uncles, and aunts, and we know the realities that they face at this institution.
