The VW Amarok Thread

It's as bad as paying R900k+ for a Mustang... Sheesh... Do not want.

It's par for the course on modern 2l diesels, really- most new BMW/ Mercs will reach 4500 rpm with a few extra kW's easily. I estimate torque to be around 340 - 360 Nm at around 2000 rpm.

So let's say someone has as R200k deposit for a new vehicle. Over 60 months with 0% residual, the monthly payment is R9k. Yes, I know that does not cover insurance and whatnot.

That's expensive, but not ridiculous. People are willing to pay it, so I don't see the issue. Dual income household with good salaries, that isn't t such a tall order.

How is this more crazy than paying R750 (?) for dstv. Or R1k on internet. Or a R1k cellphone bill. Or R1-2k per month on restaurants. It's all relative and forfeiting small things like the aforementioned makes it more plausible and possible to buy that R600k vehicle.

faaaark... dit not expect that. Well done!
Why's it so slow then? :p

Gear ratios. Bakkies are not made to drive at 220km/h+, in case you haven't noticed... You want towing power and torque for off roading in sand, as well as low range torque for climbing up inclines and over rocks.

It was a joke... but thanks anyway. I do own a 4x4 SUV so I know the reasoning.

Still loving my VW BTW and seriously considering the BiTurbo 9-speed 4x4 as my next vehicle. Few years to go though.

The thing is, if this Amabloes or Amarok or Amawhatever is pitted against two real bakkies, like the Holden SS Ute and Ford Falcon XR8, I am sure it would blow.

Yussie Roux, if that is your definition of a bakkie, you need help..

Those are both pansy poser machines with big loud engines in them, they're pretty useless at most things other than going fast and even that is a bit touch and go.

I'm just saying if you want to stick a half-a-million rand price tag on a bakkie I want V8 and lots of speed.
