The VW Amarok Thread

I'm just saying if you want to stick a half-a-million rand price tag on a bakkie I want V8 and lots of speed.

That would be you.... minority market that nobody cares about, evidenced by the fact that you can't buy either of those Australian posermobiles here anymore.

The rest of us want a decent towing vehicle that has very capable 4x4 capabilities and can take us camping in the middle of nowhere.

Just as a btw, the most basic entry level V8 Chevy UTE would hit you for at least R750k now.. and that isn't the one any one wants cos it looks shyte,.

Let's wait and see how the new Merc bakkie turns out then, it should be around the same price.

What the actual sod does the Merc bakkie have to do with anything?

BTW, its MORE than likely going to basically be a clone of the Navara... so it won't come with any fancy different engines....

wtf are you on about, you thread derailment troll. :D
Ah yes of course, what an invalid comparison that would be! Comparing the Merc bakkie to the Amarok, pffft, what was I thinking?

Just because they are both bakkies, both from German manufacturers, both in about the same price range, both having 4 wheels, that is absolutely no reason to even remotely compare them. For that matter, it is invalid to compare the Amarok Ultimate to any other bakkie because it has the word "Ultimate" in the name.

No quite clearly we need to compare it to either nothing, because it is the Ultimate, or something else. Thanks so much for pointing that out.

Now with you two being experts on this what would you say is a valid comparison to make? Amarok Ultimate vs Autobots or Amarok Ultimate vs Decepticons

If the Merc bakkie was priced, had an official spec sheet, etc etc etc... it would be valid. Until such time as its released we have less then no idea what it will actually have and what it will be priced at.

Stop it guys. Focus on the topic at hand. The "Ultimate" Amarok
Right, so let me get this right.

"The first sketches Volkswagen's facelfited Amarok have been revealed. Like the outgoing version, the latest Amarok will combine car-like road manners with full off-road capability.

Volkswagen South Africa confirmed its spruced Amarok will arrive locally during the second half of 2017. The international launch will take place in Hannover, Germany later in 2016.

Engines are likely to include the current two-litre TDI units. Hopefully the new bakkie will use the Touareg's 3-litre V6 TDI. Details will be made available closer to the launch date."

R600k for a bakkie with the worse warranty in the world.
I am so pissed off with VW, my Amarok has been there for a week.
2 days after they serviced it: When starting(which seems to take a while longer than usual) "Change air filter" on dash, glow plug light on, engine management light on, aicon not working, and car in limp mode.
VW are clueless, and reckon my car is getting old now with 80k on the clock.
Old? Really? If VW don't expect ther cars to work after 3 years/80k km, then I give up.
I wish I checked how bad VW's warranty was before I bought.
NEVER will I buy another VW!!!!!
That's not even the first crap I've had with it.
It does all sorts of strange things. The bin light came on for 5 days once. I think it eventually went off when globe blew, because no matter what I tried, I couldn't get it to turn off.
Warranties: Jeep 6 years, Volvo 5, Hyundia 7, Opel 5, Kia 5, Merc 6 and the winner VW-with a lousy 3 year warranty! Do you not trust your own product to last longer than 3 years?!?!

Yep,

http://www.wheels24.co.za/NewModels/sa-bound-bakkie-vws-facelifted-amarok-gets-new-30-tdi-20160502

The facelifted bakkie ditches its 2.0 TDI and BiTDI diesels for a new 3.0-litre V6 unit. The V6 turbodiesel will be available in three power outputs: 120kW, 150kW and 165kW (with 550Nm). According to VW, the engines, when mated to an eight-speed auto offers fuel consumption of 7.5litres/100km with emissions of 200g/km of CO2.
