The War for Linux

tl;dr @rambo919 give us a hint, without having to watch .. its a Saturday morning.

The strong hints in the thumbshot that BEE with the woke modernization addon has hit globally isnt enough?

It's everywhere now from distro forums to companies.... if you don't agree with the current thing because it's the current year you are worked out or outright fired.

This is not new, almost all tech companies are doing this already even AI is designed around this and we can see examples of it everywhere. The question is how long will they remain profitable? The alternative will be developed implemented and supported by like minded people. Just because they are the biggest now doesn't mean they will be relevant when the alternative becomes available. It is the end of standardization, I think we will see custom system like we used to see back before windows and mac was a thing.

The difference Linux is a peer to peer thing..... now they are purging "undesirables". Linux companies being driven to bankruptcy is a net positive for Microsoft which can then scoop up the leaving talent as well as having eliminated competition. On the other hand it's become clear that Red Hat etc is no longer an open source company anyway, they just pretend they are but have joined "the club".

Another chief problem is the package bases like Debian and Gnome having been taken over with no real public oversight or accountability.... these people have a massive amount of power they have begun exerting disingenuously.

Then there is Ubuntu etc embracing telemetry as well as ESG.

Linux used to be where you could take refuge from this kind of tyrannical coercion where no one cared who you were or what you did to whoever.... if people keep turning a blind eye there will be no real difference between Windows, Mac or Linux other than superficialities.... it will all be faces of big brother.

Already you cannot go to a distro forum without having to pay tribute to the alphabet flag or hate whiteness.... if you work for a company that does Linux and you don't discriminate against straight white Christian men you get fired.... globally. The exact same destruction that was wrecked on the SA economy is now being done globally and we are expected to just pretend the roof is not on fire?

It used to be a joke to say that Linux people are communists and Microsoft people are fascists..... I can't see how this is merely just a joke anymore.

I am not worried, if you keep the system blind it can't see you. People forget other countries are developing software to get away from America there will be an alternative. It can come from Russia or China or even North Korea.

TL;DR: is Ubuntu still the best for noobs? will we ever see proper DirectX gaming support or is Proton the best we'll ever see?

China made 17.7 Trillion dollars US for 2023. What makes you think that they can't afford their own programmers? Russia earned 5.2 Trillion if you believe that. What makes you think they can't afford software developers to make their own ****?

We don't need IBM and or Red Hat. People will work around them or downright replace them. I know at one point they worked on Astra Linux but I don't know if that is dead or not.

I don't get it, not a single piece of software you own is yours. Not a single software publisher cares if you breath or not. ALL of them can change terms and conditions at will. All of them willing to change stuff, remove stuff and milk customers for everything they can.

If this **** bugs you then buy a computer and use it as if it is not yours. Keep your private stuff away from the internet. My wife keeps an old laptop. It never sees the internet. On it is our important stuff. We keep backups on a external drive and usb drives and all that stuff. I have a digital photo frame with no internet that displays all my family photos.

Uhm..... the thing with actual open source.... by design.... no one actually owns it...... it's kinda the whole point.

Open source does not mean no one person or company owns the software. Copyright law applies as normal, and the original author of the work retains ownership of the work and the right to dictate how their code is used.

**** stinks and we have to get use to it, they can do whatever they want that will never change.

Uhm..... open means open..... some companies include closed software but the bulk always is open.... FOSS operates on a completely separate kind of Copyleft to the typical Copyright.

It is all toxic it is all bad, but in the end of the day it is what we have to work with. So what are you going to do?

You are either misdirecting or nor not getting the point. The point is Open Source is being slowly infiltrated and made Closed Source.
