The weight loss thread

So my thoughts on a few things

Muscle loss is going to happen when eating at a significant calorie deficit. This is just one of those things one has to accept. Semaglutides make you eat less, which is how every diet works. Less calories in + more calories out = lose weight.

When you eat less calories, you get less macronutrients which means you get less protein. Less protein equals less muscle maintenance. If you compromise on carbs and eat mostly protein, you will feel really tired. So one has to balance macros.

The trial was also 73% women averaging in their late 40s. After 45 is the time when menopause usually starts (although it can start as early as 40). This is a big factor in contributing to bone loss.

Regarding visceral fat, to get rid of that you need to do more than just eat less. You need targeted lifestyle changes to avoid sugar, carbs etc and more exercise. Subcutaneous fat is still being lost- that's the belt sizes dropping, the shirts losing X's.

So what do I see from this :
- Eat more protein.
- Supplements are your friend (Yes it would be great to get all the nutrients from food but at a caloric deficit that just isn't happening).
- Getting old sucks. Lose that extra weight when you're younger.
Yes, muscle loss happens in a calorie deficit, but it’s not an all-or-nothing scenario. The extent of muscle loss depends on protein intake and resistance training. Just because someone is eating fewer calories doesn’t mean they have to lose that much muscle plenty of people diet while maintaining lean mass. The issue with semaglutides is that they blunt appetite so much that people don’t just eat fewer calories; they often eat too little protein, leading to excessive muscle loss.

As for feeling tired on a high-protein, low-carb diet that depends on the person. If someone cuts carbs too quickly without adjusting, sure, there’s an adaptation period. But plenty of people thrive on high-protein, low-carb diets without energy issues. Individuals experiencing fatigue may not be consuming sufficient electrolytes.

The main problem with semaglutides is that they make losing weight too easy without really promoting healthy eating, which could cause issues later on.

what is the process for going on semiglutides in SA? When i google it i get a whole bunch of dodgy online pharmacy's. Is it as easy as visiting GP for prescription and fulfilling it at a pharmacy? How often do you have to go back to the GP?

Side note for discovery, i understand medical aid does not pay but could you use your MSA funds for it?

Some nice progress. My wife bought me a t shirt for my birthday - an extra large
When I started last year I couldn't wear 2xl. This fits.

I went down 3 pant sizes in one year. Don't make the mistake I did and buy too many of the same size each time.
Yeah just one pair.
I have a leather punch for my belt as well. Going to add the 2nd new hole later...

Most medical aids only cover semaglutides for diabetes. It's best to consult your doctor to determine if it's suitable for you.

Dis-Chem offers an assessment for semaglutide eligibility and may provide reduced costs if you qualify.

I successfully used Ozempic for a while to lose weight due to elbow injuries and a break from the gym. I never really lost much muscle mass, but I suppose that depends on the person. I'm off semaglutide now and in better condition than ever before. I still recommend it to those who qualify for the right reasons and need assistance in correcting their weight-loss journey, but it's not a long-term solution.

And off to buy some size 36 jeans this afternoon. The 38s I bought because the 40s I used to wear got too big, got too big.
Oh wow, well done. I thought you were close to 104KG now ? You must be tall because I am 88KG but still wear 36 size jeans.

108 still. Weight is going in plateaux and sudden drops every couple of weeks. I tried on the 36s when i got home and could probably have squeezed into 34s

174cm, not tall at all. Just solid.

Skip eatting supper.

It will work quickly. Intermittent fasting. Ive seen it work on quite a few friends. Wife lost 15kg post pregnancy in like no time. She doesnt eat supper, or if she eats late its 3pm latest. And not a lot either.

Amazing - you must be quite muscular then. I am almost your height (173cm) and 88kg and I definitely can't squeeze into 34 jeans yet. Different body types I suppose.

Still not getting below 88KG. Build up muscle they said; Muscle burns more calories they said.

Liars.

/Rant over.
