The Witcher 3 Official thread

started the download now with their new Gog Galaxy client. 26GB to download

Absolutely love GoG. I don't really play singleplayer games anymore (just gets played when the ADSL is offline once or twice a year), but this game I can torrent for "free". No worries about cracking. Play 1 hour, uninstall and go back to MP.

It's rare that a game company understands that a pirated game does not mean a lost sale. People buy games if they think it's truly worth their time and have the cash.

I prefer having all my games on steam.

Anybody know if the retail/physical edition (takealot, raru etc) will come with a steam key or only a GOG key?

The answer should be obvious Gog is CD Projekt digital distributor. Retail version comes with a gog key.

Personally would rather support gog and give all the money to the developer + drm free.

Just shy of R 16k
Thread here

Nice pc you have coming!
Dammit man, now you have me looking at upgrades! :D

As for my preload, doing it in dribs and drabs until the weekend, at which point I'll just let it finish.

If it was just an upgrade I'm sure could have gotten it just under R 10k. But needed a case, KB, mouse, screen, PSU and the likes.
Thanks man. Itching for it to arrive I want to assemble it. That the most fun part :p

Yeh, give all the money to the developer?
Keep telling yourself that.

GOG.com is a subsidiary of CD Projekt. So yes, this is the best way to support CD Projekt Red (a division of CD Projekt).

You said they will give all the money to the developer.
Do you honestly believe for a second that GOG make no money off of the sale?

The company:

CD Projekt Capital Group (CD Projekt)

Subsidiaries:

GOG.com
CD Projekt RED

They are developing and distributing video games. To think that GOG.com was developed.

The point I'm making is that not all of the money will go to the developer, GOG as a team need to get paid as well.

If you can't afford a game then you shouldn't play it. It's crazy to punish GOG and their participating publishers for releasing DRM-free games by pirating them. PC gaming is cheap enough as it is - Humble Bundles, Steam sales, the G2A Marketplace etc. make it very cheap and easy to source games legally.

I also like my games being in Steam. I just don't trust the other game clients. I preordered Witcher 3 from Takealot - I'll be pretty bummed if it's a GOG key.

They're essentially the same company, is that so hard to understand?

CD Projekt Red and GOG are even in the same building, why would they charge themselves for digital distribution? It's not like the profits go to the individual employees of GOG, they earn a salary. Profits go to the parent company ie: the same place the Witcher profits go.

All retail Witcher 3 copies come with a GoG key, but you don't need it to play. It does not come with a Steam key as the game does not have Steamworks DRM.

The point is 100% goes to the group that CD Projekt is a part of while buying it from Steam means part of it goes to valve...

As for trust CD Projekt has been around and distributing games a lot longer then steam/valve. They were translating and distributing retail games in the eastern european market before valve was even founded never mind started distributing games.

It's going to take very long for Witcher 3 to become "very cheap" on those platforms, though.

Oh Jesus that sucks. I would have bought the game on Steam if I realised.

The age of a service doesn't determine its reliability. I bought Rayman Origins and some other game on Gamersgate not too long ago and they were direct downloads. Never supporting them again. I want my games in the same place. It's bad enough having to deal with Origin, Uplay, Battlenet etc. as it is.
