Xiaomi SU7 production to reach 24,000 per month in November and December

Xiaomi's SU7 keeps selling like hot cakes, and the company has already boosted production multiple times in order to try and keep up with demand. It went from 10,000 per month to 13,000 and then in October the company made over 20,000 units.

According to a new report from China, Xiaomi wants to make 24,000 units in November and December - 48,000 in total until the end of the year. That's an insane level of production growth, but it has to be done to keep up with the number of orders, which keeps on growing too - the current wait time for new orders is 21 weeks.

Xiaomi SU7 hits 100,000 units production milestone

Xiaomi has just reached an important milestone with its very young electric vehicle division. The company announced that the 100,000th unit of the SU7 EV has rolled off the assembly line at the Beijing factory. This comes just 230 days after the SU7 officially launched in March, a trully remarkable feat for a newcomer in this industry.

The SU7 is Xiaomi's first entry into the EV market, and it now directly competes with the Tesla Model 3. Available in three versions - Standard, Pro, and Max - the SU7 has a starting price of RMB 215,900 (€26,900), making it a more affordable option compared to its American rival. In October, Xiaomi also introduced the SU7 Ultra, a high-performance variant with a price tag of RMB 814,900 (€101,800).

Xiaomi's initial goal was to reach 100,000 cumulative deliveries of the SU7 series by the end of the year. The company later revised that and the delivery milestone is expected later this month,. The new goal is now 120,000 deliveries by the end of 2024.

Xiaomi delivers 100,000th SU7, further adjusts 2024 target

Xiaomi recently announced that it reached its production milestone ahead of schedule - 100,000 SU7 vehicles rolled off the production line in the company's factory in Beijing. And now, the Chinese tech giant has announced that it has already shipped that many units.

That marks another milestone in 2024, which Xiaomi reached ahead of schedule. The new carmaker is adjusting its target to 130,000 deliveries in 2024 as it's already maximum production capacity of around 24,000 units per month. Originally, the first phase of the factory facility was planned to produce half of that.

A new section of the factory is being built that should ease the pressure on demand, but this will I'lltake time.

A 1,526bhp Chinese EV has smashed the four-door Nürburgring record*

*Sort of. Xiaomi runs a test lap at the ‘Ring in a lightweight prototype, beats Porsche

A four-door car with 1,526bhp worth of electric horsepowers has managed to lap the Nürburgring in 6m 46.874s, making it not just the fastest four-door car to have done so, but the fastest electric car full stop.

Except, it sort of also hasn’t, because the four-door car in question was but a prototype. And a fully stripped-out one at that. Which means the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT’s time of 7m 07.55s set earlier this year – and the Rimac Nevera’s 7m 05.298s just about holds. For now.

It’s a whopper of a gauntlet to have thrown down, mind: a gauntlet in the shape of the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra, a car with “two V8s” and “one V6s”. Sadly, this does not mean what you and I think it means.

Instead, it means electricity, and lots of it. There’s a triplet of e-motors, to produce what Xiaomi is calling its ‘HyperEngine V8s’, able to spin right up to 27,200rpm, powered by a very powerful battery and able to generate that colossal horsepower figure.

Xiaomi SU7 Ultra battery capacity and range revealed

The upcoming Xiaomi SU7 Ultra has been certified for sale in China by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), and this has revealed both its battery capacity and its CLTC range numbers.

So let's dig in. The supercar has a 93.7 kWh battery supplied by CATL, and a range of up to 630 km in the CLTC cycle, but do please bear in mind that this is by far the most 'optimistic' EV testing cycle there is. So in real life, you'll definitely get less.

The MIIT has also published three other, more conservative range numbers, depending on usage: 520 km, 555 km, and 600 km. We asume the lowest number is for the highest speeds, and the highest for city-only driving, or thereabouts.

The SU7 is 5,070 mm long, 1,970 mm wide, 1,465 mm tall, has a wheelbase of 3,000 mm, weighs 2,360 kg and the battery pack's weight is 638 kg. The car became available for pre-order in China at the end of October starting at CNY 814,900 (approximately €100,900), and deliveries are set to start in March.

Xiaomi's next EV model is called YU7 and is coming in mid-2025

Xiaomi's upcoming electric SUV got its details revealed through an MIIT listing, and the company officially revealed the name - YU7. The official Weibo announcement also suggests that the vehicle will arrive between June and July 2025.

Back to the MIIT listing, we can expect at least two powertrain configurations, one with 220 kW maximum output and another with 288 kW. In both cases, the YU7 is running on two motors. The battery is supplied by CATL but its capacity has yet to be revealed.

Lei Jun officially confirms Xiaomi YU7, shares more photos

Following yesterday's leak, Xiaomi's CEO Lei Jun officially acknowledged the YU7 electric SUV. Jun confirmed the company's second EV is undergoing rigorous road testing ahead of its market launch in June or July of next year.

In a statement, Jun stressed the importance of extensive tests. "Shedding the heavy camouflage will allow us to conduct more comprehensive, detailed, and large-scale tests to guarantee product quality and deliver a superior vehicle," he remarked.

The YU7 uses the same design language as the wildly popular Xiaomi SU7. The front maintains a closed-off look, with familiar headlights and fascia shapes. The rear profile comes with a full-width tail light and a roof spoiler, contributing to the vehicle's sporty profile.

The upcoming addition to Xiaomi's EV portfolio measures 4,999 mm in length, 1,996 mm in width, and 1,600 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,000 mm. The YU7 offers a spacious 5-seat configuration, though at that length a 7-seater is not impossible to pull off and it might come down the road.

Xiaomi's upcoming YU7 SUV gets spied without camo

Xiaomi's SU7 has been incredibly successful, with the company having delivered more than 100,000 units in just a few months. Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun has already confirmed that the second model is coming next year, it's called YU7 and will be an SUV (that is very Ferrari Purosangue-inspired, if we dare say so).

While the CEO did share some official images of the car earlier this month, there's nothing like seeing a prototype in the flesh, right? So that's exactly what we're bringing you today, as a YU7 has been roaming the streets in China with no camo on, out there for all to see.

Obviously there's nothing new here that we haven't seen in the official pictures in terms of design, but it's good to get an idea about how this will look on the road (and in parking lots), not just in press renders.
