Report: Xiaomi SU7 sales to open at the end of this month

Xiaomi may be gearing up to officially launch its SU7 at a special event at the end of March.

The information was reported by Lanjinger, citing unnamed internal sources. The event plays nicely with deliveries of the vehicle, which Xiaomi President Lu Weibing revealed are targeted for Q2.

The report continues that Xiaomi has begun building its special 2S stores for the sales and service of EVs in China. Xiaomi will reportedly build (or revamp current stores) around 60 to 70 2S stores initially, covering Tier 1 and Tier 2 cities in China. The report indicates that this is an important signal that SU7 pricing will be revealed very soon.

Xiaomi unveils its EV factory ahead of the SU7's official launch

Xiaomi officially announced its SU7 all-electric sedan in December last year, and it's set to go on sale on March 28. Ahead of that Xiaomi decided to officially announce that it now has a fully functioning factory, where its first EV will be built.

In a Weibo post, Xiaomi's CEO Lei Jun said that the board meeting was held at Xiaomi's new EV factory and even posted a photo of the factory itself.

However, Reuters reported a while back that BAIC is looking for approval to build Xiaomi EVs in China, which raise a question whether the factory in the photo is actually Xiaomi's or just a BAIC factory with a Xiaomi logo on top.

Xiaomi SU7 EV find a clever solution to touchscreen-vs-button debate

The raging debate over whether touchscreens are a blessing or a curse for modern cars may finally be reaching a truce – thanks to Xiaomi. The Chinese tech giant’s upcoming electric sedan, the Xiaomi SU7, offers a unique and innovative way for drivers to personalize their in-car experience.

While some drivers have become fans of sleek and fully screen-based dashboards, others yearn for the tactile feel and simplicity of physical buttons. Xiaomi's CEO, Lei Jun, understands this divide. During the initial presentation for the SU7, he unveiled a clever solution in the form of a magnetically attached "docking unit." This features a set of piano-style keys and a volume knob that snaps directly onto the bottom edge of the center screen, instantly transforming the interface with familiar controls.

While the SU7 will ship with a standard, clean touchscreen layout, it gives drivers the option to augment their experience with old-school controls. This is especially interesting given the Chinese market’s general preference for screen-dominated dashboards.

Xiaomi SU7 electric sedan's launch event detailed

The anticipation among electric vehicle enthusiasts is reaching a fever pitch as Chinese tech giant Xiaomi prepares to open the order books for its first-ever EV model, the Xiaomi SU7. With a sleek design, the SU7 sedan aims to shake up China's booming electric car market and attract buyers away from more established competitors.

Xiaomi, known worldwide for its smartphones and diverse electronics, has been working on its electric car project for several years. The company officially announced its entry into the automotive industry in March 2021, followed by the SU7 sedan's unveiling in December 2023. The official launch event is scheduled for March 28, and deliveries are projected to begin immediately, demonstrating Xiaomi's confidence in its production readiness.

We now have the exact time of the event. It will kick off at 7PM Beijing time, which is 11AM UTC, 12 noon CET and 7AM ET. In an arguably more exciting development display vehicles have now made their way to 60 showrooms across China, giving consumers a chance to experience the SU7 firsthand.

While final pricing has yet to be confirmed, reports suggest that Xiaomi is aiming for aggressive pricing to seriously undercut the competition.

Xiaomi SU7 EV officially launched in three variants, starting at $30,000

Today, Xiaomi finally announced what is arguably the most hotly anticipated EV of the year - the SU7 sedan. During the launch event we got the full list of features and the company unveiled three configurations, which is one more than the initial "Tech launch" event back in December 2023.

We will start with the base model, which offers a 299 hp rear-mounted motor and a 73.6 kWh 486V battery, which is enough for a 700 km range on the overly optimistic CLTC standard. It can recharge 310 km worth of range in just 15 minutes. The starting price of this trim without the extras is RMB 215,900 (€28,000).

If you fancy a bit of extra range the SU7 Pro boasts a 94.3 kWh battery that can go for 830 km and has the same rear motor as the standard model. This one will set you back RMB 245,900 (€31,700), which almost perfectly matches the Tesla Model 3's pricing in China.

Xiaomi SU7 gets 50,000 firm orders in 27 minutes, limited Founders Edition unveiled

Xiaomi just officially launched the SU7 EV in three versions, with an impressive starting price of about €28,000. The company has also made a very special Founders Edition, limited to 5,000 units. Deliveries for this special edition are set to start on April 3, and it's priced at the exact same level as the standard and Max versions.

Additionally, Xiaomi has announced that within the first 27 minutes after it started accepting orders for the SU7, it had already received more than 50,000 firm orders. That clearly signifies a hugely successful launch for the Chinese market, and now we are, even more than before, left hoping the SU7 will eventually make an international debut - it seems to be a true disruptor in the otherwise cooling EV market.

Xiaomi has unveiled its Tesla-rivalling SU7 saloon

The Chinese electronics giant has built its first (terrifyingly quick and reasonably priced) car

Better known for building smartphones, Chinese brand Xiaomi has done what Apple couldn’t. It has built its first electric car, and has apparently kept the price as low as £23,600.

“It’s hard to make a car, but it’s cool to succeed at it,” said company founder Lei Jun. Ooh, meow.
The Xiaomi SU7 (soo-chi in Chinese) is a spacious all-electric saloon. Almost five metres long, it’s 1.96m wide and over 1.4m tall. Not bad looking though, is it? It sports 19-inch wheels as standard (up to 21-inches for sportier variants) and is available in nine exterior colours. We’d be lying if we said we couldn’t see serious hints of Porsche Taycan, mind.

There are three different specs: the SU7, SU7 Pro and SU7 Max. The base model apparently manages 434 miles of range (on China's optimistic CLTC cycle) from a 73.6kWh battery. And we say 'base', but it still gets 268bhp and 295lb ft of torque. Not bad. The middle-child Pro offers almost 516 miles of range with a 94.3kWh battery and the same single motor powertrain.

Xiaomi's second EV will be an SUV coming by the end of the year, report claims

Xiaomi's SU7 sedan had a very successful launch in China yesterday, but it looks like the company isn't resting on its laurels and is already working on the next model. According to a new report from China, citing unnamed sources, Xiaomi's second EV will be an SUV.

That in itself is hardly surprising - SUVs have taken over the world in recent years. What is more surprising is that the report goes on to claim that this SUV will arrive by the end of this year. That's a dramatically fast release pace, but of course it's something Xiaomi is used to from its smartphone business.

Still, we'd advise you to take this with a pinch of salt, since it does seem a bit too fast for the car world, especially for a company that literally just launched its first model yesterday.

Then again, Xiaomi kind of does need to release an SUV sooner rather than later, since it's a very desired category. Most of its upstart Chinese competitors have in fact had SUVs as their first models - Nio, Li Auto, and XPeng come to mind. Even now, Nio and XPeng have a lot more SUVs in their rosters than other types, and Li Auto has only made SUVs so far.

Perhaps that's exactly why Xiaomi chose to first launch a sedan, in order to surprise people by not going the tried and tested route. But it will have to take that route at some point, so it may as well be what's coming next.
