The Xperia X1 Thread

Dont waste your time again! The bolds not a good phone imo.
If you need a phone now, theres only 3 I would consider, iPhone, TD and E71
Im using all three, mainly the TD and E71, the iPhones is just for games, apps and wifi.

The E71 is nice but the keys are too small. The BOLD has slightly bigger keys. And just the idea of not having to pay for e-mail and browsing on my phone is already a plus. I use my phone for e-mail and browsing every single day. And on the Anytime350 for R469 per month the BIS is already included. Where I have to pay R459 now for the Xperia without data costs. Otherwise I might just go for the N96.

Well based on Piesang's commentary, I'm glad I haven't been able to get back around to Brackenfell to go ahead with the Xperia - sad actually - I've been an SE fanboi for the longest time and was patiently awaiting the X1's arrival.

May just go for an iPhone now...

with so musch doom and gloom on this forum regarding the x1, im starting to stress. have mine for 3 days now and its working well. but i've used it very little. can anyone with a functional x1 please just post a "mine works ok" comment just to ease my burdened soul?

Maybe you are lucky. I am a power user unfortunatly for Sony-Ericsson. If I'm listening to a mp3 while I'm browsing the internet and a call comes through then I dont want the phone to freeze as soon as I press the answer buton. And most of all I cant afford to miss calls because the speaker is too soft.

Mine works!!! I too am a power user and have been using SE's phones for a while now, since the p800 release and have used every phone in the P series since then. I have used my phone to death so far and it is yet to die ;) , the same cannot be said for the P series phone.

The only problems i am experiencing are the low speaker volume from the unit and of course the below par (I.M.O) picture quality from the camera. The usb cable connection also seems a little unstable and sometimes requires you to unplug and replug the phone in, but i am not 100% sure if this is a software issue or a problem with my cable.

Here is what i have done so far:

I have installed a few apps and run the wireless for a fair amount of time.
Have smsed and made many phone calls; all of excellent quality.
Have surfed the web using both Explorer and Opera (honestly prefer explorer).
Have used "my mobiler" to control the phone from my pc while it is connected (will be using this handy little app fairly often i think).
Used the camera and video recording as implied above.
Used all of the different X1 panels as well as installed a few from online (have deleted the online ones though as not really worth the clutter).
Have played with my fishies ;) .
I have done a great deal more, but then again if i listed everything i could be here for a while and my fishies may starve ;) .

To be fair to piesang sometimes there is a bit of lag when opening the slider, but i really doubt performance issues like this are going to be a long term thing (software updates and bug fixing is a common need for phones of this type). Most of the time the phone is very quick and responsive for me and in my opinion if you are expecting the phone to be as quick as a 2110 when changing between "apps" you are going to be sorely mistaken as not even my pc is that quick.

All in all i am very happy with the phone thus far. Not a single crash or "freeze" for longer than 2 seconds.

I've done more or less the same. And mos of doesn't bother me at all. The main thing that bothers me is the fact that I cant hear the phone ring when I'm in a shopping mall or even when it's in the room next door. 1 call missed is less money for me and I've never had a issue like that before with a phone. I've also had a P900 a long ime ago. Now that was one of SE's best.

Come to think of it, I remember SE had a problem with one of the phone updates for the P990i where it limited the speaker volume on the phone to about 20% of max. Perhaps something similar to this has occured. Maybe try contacting SE for some info as it would be a real shame for you to dump such an awesome device only to find out it was a glitch they were planning on fixing in the next FW update. If it is a glitch or the volume can be increased somehow then it would really make my day. Luckyly the volume is not a big enough issue for me to cause me to want to switch.

The Xperia X1 is still the best phone i have ever used.

Luckily I decided not to do that. I'll keep my E90. Even if I only use it for the GPS. Thats if the next phone I get can replace it.

The only phone that will satisfy you will be a new Nokia Communicator so enjoy the wait:p
