The Special One
Seeing as this is a regular recommendation in the Nexus 5 thread, I thought that it deserved its own.
If you're rooted, and not running the Xposed framework, then what are you doing with your life?
These are the modules that I am currently using:
Seems like a fair amount there, but most of these are relatively transparent to the user. They also use tiny amounts of battery life, compared to the standalone applications that could perform similar functions.
Let's see what other useful modules are out there.
If you're rooted, and not running the Xposed framework, then what are you doing with your life?
These are the modules that I am currently using:
- Always Correct!: This allows me to have auto-correct enabled, even within fields that don't normally have it (password entry fields, as an example).
- Chrome New Tab (Xposed): Always open a new tab when clicking on a link in another app.
- CrappaLinks: Removes link masking / tracking from various apps, and allows you to open links in the native apps without the redirect through a browser.
- Gesture Navigation: Self explanatory. Allows me to assign various activities to gestures. The free version has a large enough set for mem to be comfortable with (and I'm not really gonna use three finger swipes that often).
- GravityBox: Brilliant toolset that allows a very deep level of customisation of various aspects of the UI. Best used with a stock implementation of Android.
- Greenify: Automatically hibernates, instead of closes, applications that the user exits out of, preventing their background services fro running (however, apps like WhatsApp can be greenified without impacting push notifications from coming through). This is a priceless app / module, as it has helped tremendously with my battery life.
- NotifyClean: The ability to blacklist certain apps from popping notifications in the notification tray. Useful for those poorly coded apps that insist on a persistent notification.
- PerAppFonts: As the name suggests, allows you to set a specific font to a specific app. Useful when apps do not use the system-wide font.
- QuickPic2Gallery: Changes the QuickPic name to Gallery. Useful to me because I am no fan of Android's stock Gallery app, and have frozen if accordingly.
- Unicon: Allows you to use any icon pack with any launcher / theme, and applies the icon pack system wide, not just within the launcher
- WhatsApp Quiet Hours: Allows me to set a defined period where I do not receive messages via WhatsApp, without having to resorting to disabling data.
- Wireless Charging Xposed: Allows me to modify how I am notified when my Nexus 5 is placed on my wireless charger.
- XVolume30: Gives me a 30 step volume adjustment level.
- Xposed GEL Settings: Allows me to customise the Google Experience Launcher without losing the direct access to Google Now. In conjunction with Unicon, I don't need another launcher anymore.
- Xposed Preference Injector: Allows me to place the settings for my various Xposed modules, directly in the Android Settings menu. No need to open each module to adjust something.
- XuiMod: Another smaller toolkit, that allows me a few different modification compared to GravityBox (annotating the statusbar clock with the seconds portion, the way animations are handled etc.)
- StatusbarVolume: Moves the volume panel to a smaller area along the status bar. Far less intrusive.
- AcDisplay: Moto X style notifications. Works better than the stock PA Peek for me, and I can't justify the cost of the Play Store version of Peek when this has the exact same functionality.
Seems like a fair amount there, but most of these are relatively transparent to the user. They also use tiny amounts of battery life, compared to the standalone applications that could perform similar functions.
