Seeing as this is a regular recommendation in the Nexus 5 thread, I thought that it deserved its own.

If you're rooted, and not running the Xposed framework, then what are you doing with your life? :D

These are the modules that I am currently using:

  • Always Correct!: This allows me to have auto-correct enabled, even within fields that don't normally have it (password entry fields, as an example).
  • Chrome New Tab (Xposed): Always open a new tab when clicking on a link in another app.
  • CrappaLinks: Removes link masking / tracking from various apps, and allows you to open links in the native apps without the redirect through a browser.
  • Gesture Navigation: Self explanatory. Allows me to assign various activities to gestures. The free version has a large enough set for mem to be comfortable with (and I'm not really gonna use three finger swipes that often).
  • GravityBox: Brilliant toolset that allows a very deep level of customisation of various aspects of the UI. Best used with a stock implementation of Android.
  • Greenify: Automatically hibernates, instead of closes, applications that the user exits out of, preventing their background services fro running (however, apps like WhatsApp can be greenified without impacting push notifications from coming through). This is a priceless app / module, as it has helped tremendously with my battery life.
  • NotifyClean: The ability to blacklist certain apps from popping notifications in the notification tray. Useful for those poorly coded apps that insist on a persistent notification.
  • PerAppFonts: As the name suggests, allows you to set a specific font to a specific app. Useful when apps do not use the system-wide font.
  • QuickPic2Gallery: Changes the QuickPic name to Gallery. Useful to me because I am no fan of Android's stock Gallery app, and have frozen if accordingly.
  • Unicon: Allows you to use any icon pack with any launcher / theme, and applies the icon pack system wide, not just within the launcher
  • WhatsApp Quiet Hours: Allows me to set a defined period where I do not receive messages via WhatsApp, without having to resorting to disabling data.
  • Wireless Charging Xposed: Allows me to modify how I am notified when my Nexus 5 is placed on my wireless charger.
  • XVolume30: Gives me a 30 step volume adjustment level.
  • Xposed GEL Settings: Allows me to customise the Google Experience Launcher without losing the direct access to Google Now. In conjunction with Unicon, I don't need another launcher anymore.
  • Xposed Preference Injector: Allows me to place the settings for my various Xposed modules, directly in the Android Settings menu. No need to open each module to adjust something.
  • XuiMod: Another smaller toolkit, that allows me a few different modification compared to GravityBox (annotating the statusbar clock with the seconds portion, the way animations are handled etc.)
  • StatusbarVolume: Moves the volume panel to a smaller area along the status bar. Far less intrusive.
  • AcDisplay: Moto X style notifications. Works better than the stock PA Peek for me, and I can't justify the cost of the Play Store version of Peek when this has the exact same functionality.

Seems like a fair amount there, but most of these are relatively transparent to the user. They also use tiny amounts of battery life, compared to the standalone applications that could perform similar functions.

Let's see what other useful modules are out there.

BubbleUPnP & Wanam Kit

BubbleUpnP for streaming to DLNA / UPnP devices
Wanam for various system tweaks

One day, I'll compare WanamKit to GravityBox. My SO had WanamKit installed, but I couldn't see anything that I felt I needed that GravityBox doesn't already offer in my brief overview.

Thanks MJ

You're welcome. It would be interesting to see how far people go in using Xposed.

I'm mulling over whether I should try the AutoVoice-Tasker-Xposed combination, it looks pretty compelling...

Thanks. I use:

- Burnt Toast
- Chrome New Tab
- Crappalinks
- EnableCallRecording
- MinMinGuard
- NotifyClean
- Smooth System Progress Bars
- TickerToast
- Wanam Xposed

Why has nobody mentioned XPrivacy yet, that has to be the whole entire reason for using XPosed.

Have 100% complete and absolute control over every permission and access for every single installed app.

Block access to Co tact, GPS, browser, device I'd, you name it.

Yes some phones have these security options already, but not as fine tuned and also there are apps out there that will not work unless given access to certain things. What XPrivacy does is instead of outright blocking then, it instead give it access to fake data instead, which can be randomized as desired or automatically on each boot.

If you going to go XPosed, this is the absolute must have module.

Nice one, Cranial. Had forgotten about it (actually had it installed on my previous device). Putting it back on ASAP.

Love it, especially the last few updates of the beta, Dev added confirmation alerts on new app installs, you can approve/deny each permission as the app requests it on first launch.

Bought the licence for myself, using both on my phone e and tab.

Another to add to the list: Lightning Firewall. Seems like I finally found a module that can replace DroidWall. It's basically a firewall for Android- very useful when on a more limited data plan.

I must say, I am most impressed by it thus far. It's very simple to use, and you can differentiate between incoming and outgoing connections, across the different network connection types.

Highly recommended.

Also, it doesn't conflict with XPrivacy.

Unbeloved host, great choice for fans of ad blocking.

Based on the description it does a more advanced host file modification which instead if rerouting over to local host it sends a does not exist error, so the application does not retry. At least that's my understanding, but being built into xposed it's easier to update than the current and block.

Enable call recording - record straight from the dialer
Hide battery low alert - removes the % warning and plug in charger msg
Network speed indicator - be able to see exactly how fast anything internet related is in real time
No Safe Volume Warning - removes the warning about ear damage
Root cloak - Hides root from chosen apps
Youtube Adaway - Never watch an AD again on Youtube

- EnableCallRecording

Having trouble getting this working on my S3. Is it supposed to auto trigger on all calls or is there a manual trigger somewhere?
(I dont see a sound folder on my SDcard)
Does it record both speaker phone and non speaker phone calls?

I have a manual trigger on the dialer - only comes up once the call is made
Saved under voice recording file
Only tested via non speaker

I dont see a trigger in the dialer. I am using the stock CM 10.2 dialer, any ideas?

I think you have to be on stock firmware to get this feature. CM broke a lot of Xposed goodies because of the subtle differences in their code
