The ZAR Exchange Rate Thread #2

You have a very pessimistic view on life and I don’t.

I have a much more realistic view on life. I cannot be influenced or persuaded by opinions, lies and propaganda. Personally, I do not like the "wait and see" attitude either. I know when a country is in trouble. I know what the consequences will be. I just like to be ready so that I can make my next move whenever needed.

If you were that concerned; why are you still in SA?

Do you think the country is so bad one has to leave it right away? Do you need to run every time you are concerned? No. There are still opportunities to benefit financially from a failing government. All I am saying is be realistic and get your things in order. Nothing wrong to benefit but having a plan B in place.

That's a fair point.

You just outlined the very definition of a pessimist.

Look how nice the Gupta’s used their opportunities

Long term I don’t have the most optimistic view for South Africa, but I still wouldn’t call @rvZA’s ramblings “realistic”. Hard data and educated interpretations can qualify as “realistic”. Until he can provide that he’s just another ivermectin peddler to me.

Hence the reason I am saying no need for some to flee right now. There are always opportunities in failed states, failed governments and war-torn countries for some.

I need to buy a few dollars but I'll wait to see where the dollar / rand is on Monday.

I would be happy for a R18.60 exchange rate but lets see.
R16 please as I have to as well. Std Bank economist in BD was not too hopeful; looking at R20 she said. Eish!

ANC cozies up to Russia and mentions a blackout, ZAR tanks Mzi buys. Miraculous Eskom improves, ANC runs around pacifying world as regards Russia, miniscule growth reported. ZAR recovers; Mzi sells.

I need to pay some expenses by next week.

Should I convert my $2000 to rands now, or should I wait for a 2-3 days?

I've learnt to never "wait for the right time" when dealing with currency exchange. Because there never is. Just make your transactions as and when you need them, because no one can predict the future market fluctuations to any guarantee level.

As far as ive been told is the bank start the week with an exchange rate and they keep that amount for the whole week.
Not true. Last week Monday they were offering R18.90. By then end of the week it dropped to R18.20
