How the US$ / Rand increase will affect some MyBB communities members

Almost all hosting companies / ISP's in SA use products that are licensed from USA / Europe. The licensing costs that are paid will not change in US$ / Euro's but the costs have gone up dramatically due to the dramatic fall of the Rand against the US$ and at some point these will have to be passed on.

Here are a few and I'm sure by no means all:
* Microsoft licensing
* Hosing control panels / cloud solutions
* Backup software
* Website Builder solutions
* International based domains (.com, .net etc)
* Server and all other hardware for the DC's

Unfortunately, basically most of the back-end solutions that hosting companies / ISP's use licenses are paid for in either US$ or Euro's

You can extend that and just say anything to do with computers will be affected, be it software or hardware.

Unfortunately you are 100% correct but we have found recently that customers don't realize how much of infrastructure costs / breakdown of the costs are actually in US$ / Euro's

Most local banks are 20c over the international exchange rate, would also be interested to know why you got ripped
No, they're not.

Most websites quote a mid rate, halfway between the Buy and Sell rate. The spread is around 40 cents.

Look at any commercial bank's published rates on their website and you'll see both Sell and Buy Rates, usually for TT/wire, TCs and cash.

It's astonishing how many people in business don't realize this. I often run across dealers doing small-scale imports and exports who don't know that buy and sell rates differ.

R14.05 to the USD :)

These are the good times. When the Fed increase the interest rates in the US, as many are calling for, it will go to R16 to the USD or more.

Things going to still get worse over the next 6 months. In a Carte Blanche story last Sunday, a motor vehicle spokesperson alluded to at least a 15% price increase on new vehicle prices. That is going to handbrake car sales big time!
