Of course it has to do with that and that conference about racism from which some "big gun" countries stayed away. The world is taking note of South Africa's idiotic politics (stance on Libya,Dalailama, race card etc). The Rand has lost heavy across the board! I am surprised to see some forumites doing the ostrich thing :D

You really know sweet **** about economics...

:D I haven't been this happy in awhile. I bought some homeless people ice cream. Hope the the euro burns and the rand crashes, I'll buy everyone a Mcdonalds meal, with a drink.

You do realise the homeless people will now have to pay more for a loaf bread, right?

At this rate I'll be one of the homeless people VioAdmin feeds.
Make that a Quarterpounder Deluxe, please.

Luckily most of my family are producers and exporters so a bad rand helps us out more than it hurts... one of my dads companies though is an importer and will be hurt by this.

We are importers ... nobody in South Africa knows how to make this stuff. And this rate is killing us! :(

The general rule is export more than import so it's good for our country.

I reckon R 8.50 is a good balance for those importing and those exporting. Perhaps even 9. So we can expect R 11.00/l by the end of year no doubt.

Agreed. Our manufacturing costs are increasingly becoming uncompetitive with the rest of the world. To the best of my knowledge our balance of trade is tipped in favour of imports, so the high exchange rate will hurt.
