Rand is improving against the pound.
Rand is also below the R 8.00 to the dollar.
Dollar constant to Euro and Pound.
Looking up.
Better than last night.

Can't be much worse than last night really.

At least we have the weekend to recover...

maybe its all the people leaving, when taking the dog for a walk every road has a for sale or sold sign

What was the Rand/$ in 2001? I'll probably only become concerned once it hits THOSE levels again [which was like R13:$1 at some stage] . That's not so long ago....did everyone forget about it or what? We're barely going through the R8 mark and everyone believes the world is ending.......

...all of you need that porn channel from DSTV.

Please note that I will only amend prices during the week and will be displayed ( for those that doesn't know yet ) in the beginning of this thread

Cant understand your logic? wait for it to happen again? I remember my rand was worth nothing then which made it impossible to leave the country at the time, thank goodness it recovered a bit.

PS: u should be looking a the Rand/Euro, Rand/GBP, Rand/AUD.NZD. Its never been so low as it is today.

looks like its going 13/$ again

It was an emerging market "slump" linked to a weak dollar I think. I dont reckon it was isolated in SA and therefore no SA specific reasons could have caused this.

When oil is no longer traded in US dollars we will certainly see a shift in supremacy amongst the world superpowers. The dollar is backed by its trading of it. Less trade of the dollar equates to a much weaker dollar. This issue might be compounded if commodities switch to the Euro too which might happen as a result of a much weaker dollar. US would be wise to invest in Euros and European and Asian long term notes.

There's only one world superpower. The EU is not a superpower. China isn't either. If Dollar goes down too much, China is screwed. They own a lot
of that stuff. If American buyers stop buying cheap Chinese products, who's China going to sell to? A strong EU is worse for Europe too, and since US is their
main trading partner if they Yanks stop buying who is Europe going to
sell to? China? Zimbabwe?

The problem is what is the point of trading with someone knee deep in debt, the US market is not going to disappear, but its days of dominance are gone, and the world will still be here - the real problem is of artificial wealth, paper money without promise - The game is up, the theft is noticed - Nostradamus VIII XXVIII

Let's see quick:
In Dec 2001, one Euro was worth .9 US$.
At the beginning of this month, one Euro was 1.5 US$

In Euro terms, the rand bought 0.1 Euro in Dec 2001
Right now, it buys 0.1 Euro

By my viewpoint, we are now at those lows again.

^ Good. I just went to bank and transferred a good chunk of coinage to the US. The rate will be tomorrows rate, so here's hoping it gets very strong tomorrow! ;)
