Where have all the "this is how Zim 1.0 started" guys, who were around when the rand was free falling, disappeared to on this thread now?

Your statement on 5:04pm on April Fools makes no mention of the bigger world issues. Only just the rand is stronger on what happened in Zim. So your statement "That is my contention" is surely false.

The below being your original post

What are you on about? The rand firmed on a number of issues, most notably Zim. Other global issues also contributed. There is no debate here.

This thread is about the value of the rand.
It is improving.

I can remember a time during apartheid when it was R 2.00 to the dollar.
We still have a long way to go.

$ = R 7.76
£ = R 15.48
€ = R 12.18
Gold = $ 907.75
Oil = $ 103.58

Still looking better than recent levels though.

Gold price fluctuating a whole lot too..

Much the same way that the Rand weakened due to a number of factors yet a lot of people merely view it as an indication that this country is going down the drain. We need to keep this in mind no matter which way the rand is moving.

Indeed.

That was about the same time when we had sanctions imposed by the UN?

True.
It was also when Dr. Verwoerd walked out of the commonwealth.
More or less the same time......

Only then it was R2.00 to the Pound, not the dollar.:D

At the peak of Apartheid... I've always found that to be ironic

Settling into stronger range for a while it would seem. Zim's progress still needs to be monitored though I would suggest.

Current Account Deficit.

Until we sort this out (8% GDP) we will lose value. Simple capitalist economics.

Still range-bound with no more concrete news from Zim and awaiting the Reserve bank's monetary policy committee announcement on Thursday.
