It will probably settle at R18 for the next 4 years

When it comes to an interest rate hike, I'm far more worried about the stock markets than the currency.
 
The USD gained strength against ALL currencies on Friday, not just us.

Hell it went from 121 to almost 124 against the Japanese Yen!
 
Well to put it in perspective.

My Salary was worth R15100 in Feb, it is now worth R17700. 7 months and R2600 difference. (and this is against the Mauritian Rupee)

In the past month alone my 'salary' (I'm on hourly contract rate so a bit of a thumbsuck) increased by several thousand Rands. The last week alone has been horrific for the Rand. R14.2748/$1 now. In a sense it's good for me but there are a lot of people around us who aren't so fortunate and it's really hurting them.
 
Well I am popping back to SA for a wedding next year. Even at the current 22ish to the pound, the holiday is going to be dirt cheap. Any more movement is just gravy. I mean a full meal for 4 with drinks at a decent restaurant will be like 20 pounds at this rate.

When (if) we go it's less than R400 and that's for 4 people at Spur. Their prices have skyrocketed over the last few years so don't know where you go for lunch.

Lol, no.

Let's include starters, mains, wine, desert and tip, using the Spur;) as an example: http://www.spur.co.za/

Starter = R50 x 4 = R200
Main = R120 x 4 = R480
Wine = R120? x 2 (2 glasses each) = R240
Desert = R35 x 4 = R140

Total = R1,060
Tip @ 10% = R106

Bill = R1,166 / R:£21.64 (currently on news24.co.za) = £53.88

Starters and wine by the glass is just a waste of money. Even so we've had it where some people take starters at Spur and doesn't come to R100 per person.
