I'm not the only one and I've wondered if it was a local problem, It's not.

Do you play internet games? Mmorpg's? have an application that suffers if you have high packet loss to international sites? Well right now your application is crippled. You don't need to search any farther on this site to find somebody bringing up this unsung problem, this thread hits it right on. The internet from SA is broken currently and there is no fix action reported in sight.

I used to get 280ms to a game on IDSN, I pay more for a supposed superior technology and get 420ms to the same game. Toppled onto all of that is a product that's constantly up and down. Other then browsing and email, I'm actually urged into using it for p2p just to get my "worths" out of it. As a consumer I feel I'm being ripped off. I'm not even going to delve into the current packet loss.

It's depressing that you need to chose which particular aspect of a crappy service you want to be mad about when discussing a particular issue.

For comparisions sake I was in Cotonou benin, Kigali Rwanda, and Khartoum Sudan and all three had uncapped ADSL access for well under R600/mo.

Just something to be depressed about :(

why don't you get 2 x Telkom 2GB accounts? should be able to do over 5GB on each :D

Frankly, I don't think Telkom has a problem, that's just the BS they're feeding us so that we swallow their new packet shaping policies.

Conspiracy Theory - ADSL is a "best effort" service. This long weekend was a perfect time to do some maintenance, because you wouldn't be affecting that many businesses (as most of them will be closed). So whats stopping them from bringing down a few lines, doing some maintenance etc etc. I mean they are the only company in the country who supply this infrastructure, so who do they have to answer to? Nobody, they can do whatever the f**k they want.

telkom is the problem I got 2 saix accounts and both lagging in every online game so I tried my IS account and no more lag

Such terrible lag ingame,if only I could upgrade,but there is nothing faster than ADSL.

Packets: Sent = 20, Received = 18, Lost = 2 (10% loss),
Minimum = 437ms, Maximum = 638ms, Average = 456ms

to a mud game I play.. definately noticing something is funny. Also int download suddenly has slowed down since about 5pm or so.

Tested WOW at the office this morning and it all seems to be back to normal. What kind of a company does this to it's users? I suppose this is Africa after all.

Ping statistics for 216.109.112.135:
Packets: Sent = 24, Received = 13, Lost = 11 (45% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 335ms, Maximum = 350ms, Average = 343ms

nope, the problem still persists. :(

Badger you on shaped or unshaped? My office uses unshaped... works fine, I'm using shaped at home... still to test.

A nice way to boost your ratio of unshaped users, start shapping the ports that online gamers are using.
