There is some serious WP tile interface envy amongst Android users...?

Would this app be in existance in Google play store if there wasn't a market for Android users who wish they had a Windows tiles interface?

I think not.

And I wonder how well that app is doing. It would be interesting to find out round about now.

You might say but there is also an app that makes Android look like iOS. Well, we all know that Google and Samsung came up with an all encampassing app for that. That one which includes the hardware too. Even though there is really no need for another app to make Android look like iOS a few nevertheless can still be found in Google play store.

If I were excited over Windows Phone I'd also be seeking oddly contrived avenues of justification. ;)

It is entertaining though... as MyBB's sole windows phone fanboi he more than makes up for the lack of support with his enthusiasm.

I have to admit we Android junkies have a craving for WinPhone tiles as much as the average iSheep crave an extra row of icons.

You do realise that sometimes the best reason to do something is simply because you can. I can guarantee you that if WP or iOS had made it possible to have custom launchers, you'd have Android mimics there.

Windows 8 has annoyed me enough already. I wouldn't want it on my phone too :p

This is ironic because all the OP did was show just how versatile Android is. Well done OP.

I must say. You are right. Android can take other people's original ideas and make them better. One thing that WP doesn't allow you to do is to choose tile colours from a million options.

Android certainly know how to make already existing things better.

Howz about a little innovation from Android?

You don't think it's innovative that someone can submit an app that makes the phone look like another phone?

You'd rather be stuck with the same interface for 2 years?

Just a correction on the video:
The Paid version allows for Widgets inside tiles so you can get "live" tiles.

Also for those interested:
Windows Phone like Music App: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1252942/Windows Phone Media Player.apk
Windows Phone like Contacts with facebook http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1252942/WP7 contacts.apk

Did you read the list of instructions you need to follow to do this?
jailbreak phone, install cyberduck etc. No way the average iPhone user will do this.

With android its:
go to play store
install launcher

... profit

True, I was not debating the difficulty of it, just the point that even iOS users change phones to mimic others. (strengthening the argument) :)

Yep. Its amazing the kind of innovation that you find on Android.

They can do what other OSes do (iOS and WP) on their (Android) devices. Ingenious. Highly innovative.

There is a big difference between adapting a system to devices different from the ones they were originally produced for (like how Android is of iOS) to innovating (i.e. coming up with something completely different - like how Win8/WP8 is to Android a la iOS).

I hear you can connect a PS3 controller onto a Windows Phone and play games via Bluetooth, and it has native support for Kinect and you can control a DSLR via USB. Also Windows Phone has the ability to read off USB Drivers and Airplay + DLNA support. From what I hear Windows Phone can also be used on TV's and even run off a USB stick. You can even use a Keyboard and mouse on the phone if you want.

Oh wait!!! that's Android, my bad.

I installed Launcher 7 quite some time back and used it for a few weeks. I did this to see whether I would be able to live with WP 7/7.5/8
It gave me a little taste of what it would be like. Honestly, I really liked it -as I've mentioned in a number of threads already.
Thanks to the versatility of android I was able to experience a little part of another OS -which I didn't think I'd like. Thanks to that, I'm -now - totally open to the idea of owning/using WP.
This is one of the awesome things about android IMO, so calling it "WP interface envy" is stretching it just a little, I think. :)

(On a side note, with the release of the Nexus 4 and using JellyBean 4.2, the pendulum has swung back into android's favor -for me. This, however, still does not mean that I won't consider WP8.)

Just keep in mind that Launcher 7 is actually a pretty terrible copy of WP. Use an actual device to see it.
