:confused: Christianity is an adopted religion by some black folks. It never was their religion before it was brought to Africa, so what the Bible says is not really applicable.

I think we are using the word "witch" wrongly (probably 'cos it's the nearest in meaning). My colleague explained to me that a witch in an African context is defined differently, and can even mean someone who is perceived to be `possessed`.

In any case, this is nothing more than primitive cultural beliefs still at play. Most modern cultures got rid of barbaric acts such as this many many lifetimes ago. There are many such beliefs and customs that once shed, evolution in Africa will become a reality. Muti murders are one such custom that is clear evidence thereof, female circumcision another, and this specific incident yet another. Don't get me wrong - there is a difference between cultural beliefs and senseless customs, and most nations will rightfully advance the former and eradicate the latter. But this is a difficult thing to get right, and requires an about turn on the customs passed on through the generations.

@xtermin8or: comparing the death penalty to a mob killing is probably the least likely way to convince anyone about the demerits thereof. Either way, this woman was not a murderer killing for pleasure. The mob, however, was killing for pleasure, and that is unforgivable, barbaric but most of all, extremely primitive.

But are we not talking about the medieval age? We live in castles, burn witches and some even still forge weapons from crude iron! ;)

Anyways, this is just sickening, as xterminator said, the gov should do a better job at educating everyone... if that could only become a reality.... sigh...

Mob violence I saw in the 80's during my Army days was unbelievable. People who seem kind and gentle get swept up in it and it makes them momentarily insane. I have seen it with my own eyes.

One day on Patrol in the Vaal a cart horse fell in a ditch. A mob of about 60 people (mostly women and children) with panga's hacked the poor horse up for meat...as it was alive. I have never seen anything like it before or since and never want to again. It still gives me nightmares just hearing the horse's sounds and people cheering and laughing and little kids covered in blood running around with big chunks of meat and blood splattered over them! I always wonder what is to blame for this or what is the cause of this type of behaviour, but don't be fooled, its not just a SA phenomenon!

In the Black tribes scenario "adopted religion" most probably mean they "added" it to their EXISTING believes. I've heard of alot of blacks that follow Christianity, but in the same sentence they follow all the other "rain god/queen" and "tokolosh" believes. Almost like the Romans who had a god for
everything...

In that same note, recently i drove past that "Zion City of Moria" near Polokwane [or Pietersburg] , so who knows what goes on there? They got a holy mountain and special teas there..and they go there during Easter..why does that sound like a mixture of religions right there?
 
Well they still have a rain princess (or something like that :D) there. She was "crowned" and later died of AIDS. And the local black people said the whites killed here. Was big news. lol

Both I would say. Dark Ages and Medieval. I think these periods overlap in history, but not much is known of the Dark Ages as most of the records were burnt, looted and destroyed.

Probably since the Roman Times? Fourth Century onwards?
However, taking the Roman Order to task, they were not much better by strapping people to a Cross and letting them die slowly and then leaving those dead bodies to the elements on the cross for everyone to witness the slowly decaying bodies on the Main Road to Rome. :eek:

Bit of useless info :D

Its the rain queen :D and the previous one is believed to be poisoned in 2004 cos she got pregnant with a municipal worker and not some one of royalty. I think she is called the 5th modjadji (sp) but still a really interesting story how it all started way back in the 1600's the father getting a dream that shaka will kill them and he (the father) needs to marry his daughter and the first daughter will be a girl and she will be the rain queen.

They got influenced in 1806 by christianity but dont call themselfs christians.

You'll see mob behaviour anywhere. There is a lot of research into this phenomenon.

So essentially no different to adoption of Christianity elsewhere, including in Europe.

Ultimately there is no pure religion, no pure culture, which is why it is so pointless when people try desperately to keep a religion or culture the same forever. It's all just a mixture of influences that came before.

What about when the "Christians" burnt the witches, or the KKK hanged/hang black people in the US. What about in the bible where they stoned people?

Mobs appear everywhere. Sick, sad and disgusting but true.
