I really enjoyed the Thief series of games but it's been so long since Deadly Shadows - and it seems nothing new is on the horizon for this series. What is available right now that is the same - and as good?

Only game that i can think of that has something to do with "stealing" is........

Stolen, havent played it though... But it does not look too bad!

Its not set in the time of thief, but in todays time i think...

I'm looking for something in the same time/atmosphere as Thief. The setting did it for me.

Well, then i cant help you buddy...

Thief is a one of a kind game, no similar games that i know of... And im a big gamer, so i know my games pretty well!

I also enjoy playing games that is set to be "Back in the day" type...

Like Oblivion, Gothic etc...

Well i got the same kind of satisfaction with the Hitman series [if you play it correctly] . Also the Splinter Cell series worth a look at too [again if play it correctly]. Both require significant amounts of stealth, although missing the "dark" theme that Thief got.. So i know what you mean..i love it, haven't found a similar game since. Only other game/series with the "dark atmosphere" i remember now was "Vampire The Masquerade" , although it's an RPG BUT you can play as a stealthy character....

I think the guys from Eidos has been busy on "merging" two series :

a) Prince of Persia
b) Thief

what do you get?

Assassin's Creed .

Check out the pics, might look familiar if you know Thief ;)

I have done all the Splinter Cell's - but none of the Hitman games. I was actually thinking of getting the latest Hitman - but the atmosphere, theme and time is not the same - but maybe I should just give it a go. Thief had something about it that set it appart. I've been wondering about Assassin's Creed ... maybe something to investigate.

Assassins Creed looks awsome!!

A while ago i watched a gamplay vid on youtube, and it looks really amazing...

Its basically like this:

"What you see is what you get"

What i mean by that is, you can climb onto anything and everything you can see, like buildings etc...

If you did an assassination and you drawed to much attention to yourself, you can then put up your hood and walk with a group of monks to disguise yourself from the castle guards and stuff.

Does anybody know when its coming out?

Well Hitman got it's own set of dark plots [the main character is after all somewhat mysterious with a dark past ] . Hitman got that "class" effect to it, where you feel like you must do the job perfectly. The latest hitman's intro music sums it up for me [or just listen to the soundtrack] ;) . Splinter Cell it's gadgets and tech, Hitman you do it in style with a suite. ;)

Although i enjoyed the first bunch the most, Hitman 2 was my fav, somewhere they started to "milk" the franchise imho. The latest one is somewhat back to goodness.

But yea, if you're looking for that distinct medieval "wander the streets at night" effect, won't get it in Hitman. It's pretty much modern day [and mostly broad daylight] .

Like you, I have been looking for something that captures the mood and gameplay of Thief 3, but I have yet to find a comparable game.

all i can remember is that thief series was quite hard at times
was a cool game in its time

Thief is still very enjoyable to play, the graphics aren't that great but the gameplay is VERY good.

Gameplay > Graphics + Realism + Whatever else you care to mention

I've been at a lot of shops in the Centurion area and cannot find the latest Hitman title for the PC anywhere. Plenty for X-Box and PS2 - but no PC version anywhere. What's happening with PC games ... the shelves are going empty?

There has been a lot of talk about suppliers not giving South Africa any stock because of the high piracy levels. Perhaps it's because of that that the shelves are empty?

My first thought was that the shops are now focusing on console games as it sells better and the profits are higher. It really is frustrating to move from shop to shop and finding nothing worth buying. One may find one or two of the latest games - the rest being old games and re-runs - as well as a new tendency ... cheap brainless no-name ripoff games.
