Location
Dark room in Adventure. Grues abound.
Continue to gripe and moan about things that irritate you here :)

Surprisingly, it is Christmas Bug Time again. In 2021 I posted :
Tonight's gripe is christmas bugs that peel off towards the closest light, so if you open your door, they come in uninvited, and zoom all over the place.

Let the moaning and griping continue...

Fireworks that are being blasted off tonight. None too close. But I can hear them. And all that I can hear are deemed illegal according to the bylaws based on our proximity to a "protected locations".

Thankfully my pets are safely indoors and they are not flustered by the noise.

While the fireworks are somewhat irritating, luckily our pets aren't too bothered and both our sons were asleep, it is the self righteous that irritate me, especially with messages like this on neighbourhood WhatsApp groups...

We live in a multicultural society, where we should respect and acknowledge everyone’s customs and beliefs

If this too hard for you

You are more than welcome to move to a new neighbourhood then

No prior warning, just a "get to site X ASAP" leaving you scrambling...

...logistics se moer, this was not an emergency, it was a planned session, but somehow I was not included, and somebody else dropped the ball big-time...

I find that managing my annual leave has become stressful. I have no problem with being off and chilling. I work in a small team where we are dependent on one another. I personally feel that taking time out puts pressure on the team and more importantly the results we are trying to achieve. I know it shouldn't be like this.

Now I need to put in my leave plans for Dec/Jan. With the work I do, it is logically the best time to be off. Quietest too. With all the public holidays, I can take a month off, and hardly use any leave (which in itself creates problems for me with HR).

First world problems! :(

Got home just before 7 pm last night. No power. It went off just after 3 pm. Area outage. Multiple suburbs.

Update from the ward councilor at 19:30 -

''33kV cable faults. The next updated will be tomorrow, 22 October 2025 @ 13:00''

Cool. 24-hours minimum without power.

Another update at 20:00 -

''There is a triple cable fault from the main feeder. Location and repairs to commence in the morning, unfortunately due to time constraints and contractors, it is not possible to do this tonight still''

Nice. Incapable of delivering a critical service because it is dark and you have to rely on contractors who are probably the reason why things are breaking in the first place. Back in winter, there was an outage, and we were told that contractors would not be able to come out and do work on a Sunday afternoon because of the weather conditions. The weather conditions being cold. Because it was a winter's afternoon. So yeah, lots of confidence in these contractors they are using.

We were without power last week as well for about 16-hours.

Ekurhuleni is a sh*thole.

What they're not saying is that two of the three cables have been ****ed for at least a year and ignored because there was another cable working... and the last one finally packed up.

Update: The power came back on just after 9 last night.

Here is the fun part: It was cable theft in an area where contractors were previously shot at while working, hence their reluctance to go on site. The private security companies that service the area as well as the local CPF came together and setup a schedule to provide armed protection for the contractors while they worked. They also sourced spotlights with the help of the community so the guys could work through the night.

I rescind my criticism of the contractors if these are the conditions they are subject to. But it highlights how utterly useless Ekurhuleni is. They need to outsource a critical service and on top of that cannot provide security for the contractors when they carry out emergency work.

Over the course of 3 days I tried to get onto Natis to renew a car license multiple times. It worked perfectly 2 months back for my other car but not now. Would not take my password and username. Tried to reset without luck. Kept thinking it must be an issue on their website and if I try again tomorrow should work. No luck. Eventually in frustration yesterday I am trying to re-register when I finally notice I am on this URL:

instead of:

I am trying to log in on the Namibian version which looks really similar to the SA one. So irritated with myself, and then I realized what had tripped me. Google sponsored results at the top of the search. I never click on the first few links anymore, I always scroll down to normal results and click the first one after the bolded add driven drivel at the top of google search results. Only in this case the first sponsored result was the .za one and the first real result was .na.

This is all google fault. Sigh.

I've found Google sponsored results are getting very sneaky at showing things you didn't search for at all these days.
