Things that please you...

A whole day spent with the fams, messing in the pool, playing board games, chatting and eating. The way it should be.

I considered posting this in things that irritate you, but maybe it is better here.

Today my wife learned that a patient, who had a heart transplant not long back, died. She was in her 40s. Her sister died earlier this year and was also a transplant recipient. The patient left behind a grieving husband and very young child. Tears roll down her face as she pours over the messages and looks back on the photos. When I looked at the photos, I remember the lady and story. I am crestfallen and emotional to learn of the news.

Today also, my wife tells me that another patient, a 13 year old lad, is going home. He received his heart a few weeks ago. What a story goes with him. She rejoices in the news. We rejoice in the thought that there is hope for him. Wow.

Bittersweet. One life ends. Another life has hope.

Seeing a Vaalie beach his BMW X5 M because he tried parking up on the dunes by Sardinia Bay yesterday. There was a heap of concealed hardpack soil beneath the sand and the middle of the car beached on it and it teetered like a see-saw.

He eventually rallied about seven or eight beachgoers to help him push it off, but those low-profile tyres just couldn't get any grip on the loose beach sand. We watched for about five minutes but it didn't look like he was getting anywhere.

There is a reason you are not allowed to drive on beaches - and here is a new one.

Is that specific Beemer a hybrid vehicle? If so, he probably damaged his battery pack (which sits usually below the vehicle).

I don't think it was. It was definitely a turbodiesel motor, as we could smell the acrid odour from the exhaust pipe from where we were standing about ten meters away.

I doubt he will be trying that trick again on his next holiday. Now if only he had decided to park 50 meters or so further away he would have saved himself a lot of effort instead of trying to show off his parking skillz

X5m is a petrol.
X5 m50d is a diesel.
It only had X5 M on the rear boot lid, so perhaps the guy partially debadged it? Was definitely a turbodiesel judging by the engine sound and black smoke that was bellowing out the exhaust pipes

Some people just feel like they have to be above the law. You see it often in traffic, too.

On a side note, the beach was surprisingly empty for New Year's day. I estimate maybe 200 or so peeps by the waves, but we headed up to the rock pools with the dogs so we barely saw a soul. I imagine that the beaches in town were a lot worse due to their proximity to most residential areas
