You just reminded me that my wife finished the last of 2 bottles of wine she really enjoyed earlier this week.

Ordered a box of 6 now - will make it her Wellingtons Day (Valentine's Day) gift.
I can't drink wine. It doesn't agree with me at all. But if you replace grapes with hops and barley, I'm there like a bear/beer!

Myself and my girlfriends father had a strange encounter on Saturday morning...

We went for a ride up the Braamfontein Spruit from Craighall/Parkhurst, upt to the top of Alberts Farm and then up to Northcliff Hill. We took a break on the top of Northcliff Hill to have a drink, catch our breath and find/repair a persistent leak in my rear tyre. A mother and daughter asked us if we wouldn't mind taking a photo of them with the view of Jhb as it was a lovely clear morning. Photo's had taken and we were getting ready to head off again when two men and a women approached us, one of the men was filming on an iPhone and had a Canon 7D which I presume he was taking photo's with, the other man asked each of us to give him a word and he would do a little rap. We each throw out a word or a few words, he does his piece which was impressive as I can't think quick on my feet to come up with a word or two, never mind put them in a poem like fashion with rhyming lines. We start packing up to head off and the one man has a few words with my girlfriends father before approaching me, where he proceeds to tell me that he doesn't care about the colour of my skin, he loves me and I shouldn't pay attention to social media as the country needs white people. He said a few other things which I didn't fully agree with, like black people are lazy, but it was refreshing to hear his point of view as opposed to the almost daily rhetoric of how terrible white males are.

As much as I moan about City Power normally, the fact that they are actually mitigating Load shedding for a change is impressive. But I guess the repair costs outweighed the paying of an IPP.

There's politics at play here, sadly. While the DA ran joburg, Eskom would not allow them to mitigate load shedding with Kelvin. Now that the ANC are in charge again, it's allowed.

Today I'll be pleased that I have the perspective to put my problems into context.

We live in Ekurhuleni and we've been plagued with irregular refuse removal for a long time. The council decided last week to appoint private contractors to assist with the backlog. On Saturday morning one of these contractor's truck got torched. Eye witnesses say the driver was standing next to the truck weeping - I assume both due to shock and the loss of his truck. I hate to think that this could be a one man band and that his truck may have been his only means of income. Why is our nation so angry? (rhetorical question)

Maintenance removing light bulb from flashing light.

Now no light.

Frankly, I'd rather work in the dark then work with a flashing light. But I assume you agree as this is the things that please you thread.

Some of the residents in our complex has put down bowls of water in the shade for the various birds and doves that frequent our area. It's been very hot here lately with very high humidity so I am sure they appreciate it.

They seem to have also attracted some crowned plovers and spotted dikkop to the area :)

We have tarentaal, dikkop and plovers on our smallholding.

Plovers = burglar alarm, when it start to make a noise, you then know something's out there.

We also see some guineafowl every now and again, but they never come into the complex. We also have some wild rabbits in the field nearby, and the odd owl from time to time. And rock pigeons, enough to drive one mad!

Lovely to see nature life all around you.

Except for the mice and rats, the doggos have a most frolicsome time should they find a mouse or a rat.

I found the remains of a half-chewed rat once, just left it, and it was gone later on. We don't put poison out due to concern for owls and other wildlife which preys on rats and mice.
