Pretoria, base. The Ook have landed safely.

Lots of road hogs and other inconsiderate guppies on the trip up north. If only people will learn the virtue of patience, and stop taking chances...

Helped a distressed young lady with a flat tyre. Assisted another couple to make it safely to the nearest fuel station when one of their tyres was developing a loose tread surface. Decided since the car is still mobile, and with heavy traffic and a looming thunderstorm to try and make it slowly to the nearest filling station past Grasmere plaza.

Made it safely to said filling station after Grasmere plaza, only to get stuck in the mother of all thunderstorms  Had a sea of red and orange lights in front of me as traffic slowed down to a crawl on the highway in the storm.

On my last ride on holiday I managed to break off the Boa Fit dial on my mountain bike shoes...

I managed to use a cable tie to tighten them for the rest of the ride but dreaded the thought of having to replace them as decent ones are expensive and I still like these. I found a post on Bike Hub about replacement Boa Fit parts, jumped on their site, filled in everything for a warranty replacement, they confirmed the order and I got an sms from DHL yesterday afternoon that they are on the way, for free.

A shoe thingy is life changing?

Nah I think life changing would be if a motorist tells you how much he loves seeing you on the road.

I do have a 10 year old pair of Olympic MTB shoes. It had SPD cleats on for most of it's life but since changing to flat pedals some years ago I removed it and now occasionally use them. They have velcro straps that you can tighten or loosen should you want to.
