you see diane, you have to modify the hosts. file (see the link Pada gave) to force google stuff to run on local. uhm, how old is your son? kids are pretty tech savy these days, maybe he could help?

I think they moved to international so they could throttle it in the uncapped accounts, all local traffic will be unshapped in telkom uncapped

They're using CDN (content distribution network) for their downloads, but not for their website. Their CDN, which is called Akamai, includes local mirrors, which is why you'll be able to download Microsoft updates/content with local only cap. You'll see that the website runs off http://www.microsoft.com/ and their downloads are on http://download.microsoft.com/

Microsoft, Nvidia and AMD all use CDN's that have mirrors in South Africa. I don't know about any others though.
