Things to do when your cap runs out

Hey Guys,

This is an update on the progress of our project we are running to make local sites more accessible. This message is mainly directed at everyone that owns a local site.

We will be building a local link network. In other words, a number of websites will be linking together and it will mean that all the websites in the network will have a net gain in visitors. This is a very common tradition internationally amongst webmasters to link to sister websites free of charge. Also a number pay websites like Google and Yahoo do this sort of thing, but at a charge.

We want to launch a Beta version of this link network in late November. This will give us the opportunity to develop the links and make them more specific in the long term.

So please give me a private message and I will you add you to the network. It is free of charge, there are no contracts or anything, and you can remove yourself at any stage.

We'll keep you updated.

Erm, so a link exchange network or a "top links" kinda page?

A link exchange network.

Ideally we would like to have a big link exchange network in South Africa and we do not want any of the websites to pay for the service. We are hoping that in this way we can build some sort of a local infrastructure of sites, allowing visitors to go from one website to the other effortlessly.

As it is right now, local internet users don't know about local websites and as a result many websites die off fairly quickly. Hopefully with this link exchange network we can have better flow of traffic.

So you will be recieving links on our website, which is going to be launched towards the end of this month (November), and your website will be represented on the network of other websites which form part of the link exchange network.

Summary:

You get the following...

- Permanent links on our website.
- Links on other websites on network.
- Oppertunity for increased traffic to your website.

And in return obviously as a member of the network you need to represent a few links on your website to sites on our link exchange network.

It's not going to cost a cent, you can leave whenever you want to and you can choose which sites you want to link to from your site.

It's pretty much whatever you make of it, we just want to get the network off and running. So if you have a site or know people with websites then just give me a private message or just post a message here.

site loads but unfortunatley no video yet!!!

Found this interesting article... Haven't tested this tho and looking how it's done I imagine it can't be done on your local cap.

Watch Hulu outside the US!
Hulu was launched just after NBC left iTunes and it is actually pretty great. There is a lot of free content and the ads are very short. It unfortunately only works in the US and I've looked for a solution in the past, but I hadn't found anything. The solution came this week from the podcast Command-N. It is called AnchorFree and what it does is using a VPN, it shields your IP address. It is compatible with both PC and Mac and it is much better than Web proxies, because it actually has a menubar icon and menu to control it from there. Of course, you don't want to leave it connected all the time, because it adds advertising and all your web traffic goes through this. You can learn more and the download the app here from AnchorFree.com.

my daughter has found some very entertaining flash games and games like the ones on the addicting games website. i want to post them here but i am not sure if they are hosted on a local server. what do we look for?

Go ahead. I am assuming that it must be local if it is from that site, since it is on our list.

but she found a whole lot more and thats what i am worried about and if they are on local i wanna put them on the list here for other people to enjoy when they are bored.

Post them and we'll check if they are local or not :)

Hey Fragtion, yeah totally that Rockford game was the best, if you could email it to me that would be awesome, havent played it or seen it for many years now, I was so addicted :) miss the good old days, the new games like that just aret the same as it, if you could email it to me [email protected] would be greatly appreciated.. There was another one i played called xenon, that was also fun, found it on an amiga emulation, also tons of fun, but probably more so as a lighty, and the ducktales game :)

Update

Good News!!! The website has been created. It is not yet public as we are doing some test runs. The link will be up on this website by the end of this week. The site will be in BETA mode for a month or so. For now I need help.

I need a number of you willing guys with free time to volunteer to submit links onto the website for the first few days and then you can kinda do as you please. The site has been designed to have Digg/Reddit/Delicious functionality. In other words you submit your links and then other users can rate those links.
So I need people to get us started by posting some LOCAL ONLY links.

This is going to be great. So I have already got a few of you guys willing to help, I just need a few more. So just send me a private message or post a message here volunteering your services. Much appreciated.
