Thingwala upgrade for Geyserwise?

I came across the Geyserwala Connect from Thingwala. It seems like a solid WiFi upgrade for my Geyserwise Max system. I like the idea of being able to monitor energy use and also see how well the solar is doing, I’ve heard that the solar can be installed badly and also start to under perform as they get old. Plus, being able to change the timers and boost the water temp from an app is super convenient - definitely beats dealing with the old panel!

I also see that Geyserwise has their own WiFi upgrade - the panel is those same 1980’s red digits, and reviews seem a bit underwhelmed??

So what is the verdict on the Geyserwala? Is it as cool as it looks, or should I stick with the one from the manufacturer?

Some feedback ...

This Geyserwala is awesome!

Almost immediately I was able to see that my Geyserwise MAX was loosing heat from this advice:
Mine was:

I got a plumber in to sort it out and now it looks good like their one here:
Mine is now:

My energy saving is clearly obvious, I'm now using less than half the electricity:

I highly recommend the Geyserwala Connect from Thingwala! Well done guys what a great product!

Is @Thingwala still around? I'm finally ready to pull the trigger on a wifi installation for my geyser. I see the geyserwala is now more expensive than the geyserwise. Is there a reason to opt for the geyserwala instead?

If you look on the geyserwise's control board there is already a serial port that outputs the temperature if that's all you need.

It's not all I need. I need to dynamically adjust the temp based on time of day, battery status etc.

I've got the Geyserwise Max wifi, unfortunately it runs on Tuya. It works well enough, and I can make all adjustments I need via settings, or scenes , and switch the element on and off as I need manually also.

I can't imagine Geyserwala would have any more functionality, I have no idea what the difference is.

Geyserwala has it's own integration. It is local only on your local network. Nothing goes out to the internet. So very nice for home assistant users. Especially those that want to rely on reliable automations.

Genuine question - is this different / better than using local tuya?

Different, just a different integration maintained by South African company. Saw a commit 2 months ago, make of that what you will.

Better, it's easier integrate into home assistant.
Full controls compared to tuya local only some, this is in home assistant.

This makes most sense as a home assistant user. If not, then I guess it's down to personal preference.

Keep in mind, I don't have this myself. Only have the praise from a work colleague who has it.
